my ex classmate is fat (somewhat insecure with her body shape ) , cheats during exam ,quite a harsh person etc
she would say that awesome men would not like me 
when i already have plenty of men who likes me lmao .then she would ask me to work hard etc when she would cheat during exam 
the other dude who keep asking me to work hard barely scored 2 3 gcpa meanwhile i scored 3.7 cgpa every sem lmao

You mentioned Job Interview so yes someone else controls whether you get the job or not but that is not the outcome the outcome is a successful job interview
You prepare for job interview - practice Q, resume etc then you go for the interview the outcome in this case is the job interview not the outcome of the job interview - there are people that have great job interviews and still not get jobs tht is beyond your control
