How come pokemon couldn't surpass its 1st gen popularity?

Pokemon is literally the biggest media franchise in the world?

I haven't watched a single pokemon episode since Brock left or when they started to make the Team Rocket not being a mess? It killed a little bit the essence of the show.

Never played the games because I sucked at it. I still have tons of Pokemon cards but that's it because I never learned how to play it.

Have you seen the way the tcg blew up? I can't even buy cards at Target nowadays

I thought that was true of most shows? Part of the reason might just be the writers changing the original "world," so they can make more seasons.

I'm biased, though, because I was growing out of kids (or any) shows in later seasons. ETA: nvm, I remember now. I was definitely not happy with Pokemon, Digimon, or Power Rangers in the early 2000s :-D Then I stopped caring because I was in high school.
