everyone come answer my question! (also my poll)

  • which would be more beneficial for the artist 11

    1. debut, similar sound cb, then different sound cb (11) 100%
    2. debut, different sound cb, then go back to first sound (0) 0%

I want to know which YOU think is best for a new artist out of these 2 situations! Sometimes artists debut with 2 singles with a similar “sound” back to back, or sometimes it happens but with a single in between that had a different sound. So which is better?

—having two similar “sounding” singles back to back gives the potential new fans a taste of what the artist is going to sound like before switching it up and lock in those fans

—having one that sounds different in between would probably garner more attention, and potential fans with different tastes than those who were interested in the first single. but what if the fans of the first single dont like the sound of the second one? risk v reward?????

    for example:

would itzy have done better if they went straight from dalla dalla to wannabe? most dd fans love wannabe and hate icy. would this have secured a lot of midzy earlier on than doing icy in between? or is having icy in between better because it got a different audiences attention?

(this is just an example. im not just asking about any specific group in the poll)

    another example (kind of)

aespa: releasing black mamba, then forever as the next “single”, then releasing next level or would it be preferential to have released black mamba, then next level, then forever

So i was curious which situation you think is better. when artists have two very similar singles back to back at debut or space it out with a different sounding one in between.

if they sound very similar, would you even do more than just 1 single in between or is that even worse?

  • Is there a real definitive answer ? You could say Exo and Bp didn't change much but succeeded a lot overall, but at the same time you have groups like BTS who succeeded after a drastic music style change. Rv change their music style a lot and have big success whereas groups like apink didn't change at all for the first 5 years of their career. It's really something that we can't generalize.

no i mean like more similar sounding than just “generally”

like blackpink you mentioned but i wouldn’t consider them because their first singles all sounded too different for this question. i mean pretty similar sounding tracks. bbyh doesn’t sound like whistle or playing with fire or stay much...

again, examples are like dalla dalla and wannabe, black mamba and next level, bts no more dream and N.O

singles that “sound similar” back to back or with one in between. i’m not generally talking about discography changing over time lol

  • oh ok then idk there is just too many groups but i would say around 1-2 cb with the same sound and then you need to change. Realistically its more about if your sales (revenue ig) stop increasing or stagnate you need to change.
