I am guessing they might have said that because some adopted kids don't get treated like normal kids. They might get badder treatment than others.

sadly that's the mentality of a lot of people and it's stupid af. If you adopted a kid then it's literally your obligation to treat them like a kid of your own lol

But it's true that some people adopt and still make difference between their biological and adopted children.
