Not always, but sometimes. My mum always says 'do what you want, you will anyway' whenever I want to buy something like sweets that she doesn't like so I guess that counts??

No. I'm expected to get things right the first time. To my parents mistakes just mean that I didn't study hard enough or didn't think things through.
They also expect me not to do anything they personally consider a mistake (like not becoming a lawyer), so mistakes in a more abstract sense aren't acceptable either.
