  • it seems to be increasing which is always a good sign for a (would I be correct in calling them a nugu group???)

    I think they're upper mid-tier. Sales-wise this is how I view it

    sales:

    below 10k - Nugu

10k-20k - on the cusp to nugu territory or in danger

    20k-35k - lower mid tier

    35k- 50k - mid tier

    50k-80k upper mid tier

80k-150k - on the cusp to top tier

    150k- 250k+ top tier

    250k+ leaders

I think album sales is not the proper indicator to determine who is top tier, but I think a group moving below mid tier usually indicates could be in trouble if they don't improve sales after a couple of releases. I think album sales are declining, so it's hard to fully determine things. I think digital stream, and being able to tour is the best indicator to see if a group is healthy. Rescene seems to be improving in all metric every comeback and they had moments where their songs went viral.

  • obviously we are in kpop and thus biased to a certain extent...I mean I've heard of Rescene personally (but that doesn't really mean anything) but not really in the know about their music or group itself...

do they have a bigger SK fanbase compared to say International fans?

I usually don't think album sales and "nugu" status are that correlated...it doesn't mean it's not but high(er) album sales doesn't necessarily imply they are "known" to the GP

now that is no way shape or form taking a jab at Rescene since by pure album sales they are definitely getting up there

I remember when I first got into kpop and learned that 100K sales is very good for GG...obviously we are 6 years removed from 2019 where GG sales can exceed 1m per album but 100K is still excellent for GG and Rescene seems to be growing where like you said overall album sales are going down

I'd like to see more stratification above this point, as there's quite a bit of difference between a group selling in the range of 250K (e.g. I‍zna, M‍eovv) versus, let's say, 1M+ (e.g. A‍espa, I‍ve).

  • I don't think they're that popular internationally, but their popularity seems to be improving. They seem to be somewhat known in Korea, so most likely performing well domestically

Agreed sales are tough to compare. a Big 4 group selling 250k would be considered catastrophic. I think conversation with album sales always needs context. Big 4 groups and groups that have similar popularity will have different barometers in what's considered a successful comeback compared to groups below them in resources.

I can think one one group who match that criteria... (and I'm basing it on facts, despite its streams)

Whilst streams may seem a lot, how much a label generates revenue from them is, as I've said, a pittance.

    https://dittomusic.com/en/blog/how-much-does-spotify-pay-per-stream#:~:text=Spotify%20pays%20artists%20between%20$0.003,streaming%20practices%20from%20taking%20place.

For example, a basic calculation of ILLIT's Not Cute Anymore's Spotify streams based on average royalties, means they've generated between $22.5k and 37.5k... hence why I think, yes, streams may seem important, but they don't bring in the revenue compared to physicals.

Sorry for bringing ILLIT into it, since it's about Rescene, but I just wanted to clarify how important, or not important, streaming is compared to the revenue labels make with physicals.

  • they'll add at least 25k today

so they already surpassed 100k congrats
