Stray Kids Hyunjin and HAN's relationship is as intriguing as It's complex

  • They are my favorite duo in Stray Kids, so I wrote a thread about their dynamics 3 years ago when we had the last 2 Kids Room. Until this day, whatever they share informations about their relationship is really interesting to me.

During the recent 2 Kids Room, they shared some more vunerable feelings they have towards each other:

    Quote

I don't know how It will sound to you, but I had admiration and a little of bit of jealously towards you. I did. And maybe I still do. Because I really admire you as an artist [...] As a person, I just think you are cool. You know who the artists I like are and, since I see you overlapping with them, that's where the admiration and the jealously came from. When you look at music or art, not separately, but as a whole, when you see it as a complete art form, I thought "This guy is really good at art, so... this guy is a genius too". So, when I wasn't doing well, It got harder to joke around you or even just talk to you.

    — Han to Hyunjin

This really hits hard to me, because, in my opinion, It takes a lot of courage and emotional maturity to say to a friend — or even admiting to yourself — that you feel jealously towards them and, worst than that, saying that when you are your lowest, you don't even feel comfortable to interact with them, because they remind you of everything you think you aren't.

Regardless, It's cool to see Hyunjin also admires him so much and wanted to make It clear when sharing what he wrote to Han

We've fought, laughed, cried so much and made just as many memories. You don't know how proud I am to have a friend like you. I'm not someone who usually clings to relationships but the reason I held on to you was probably because you were that precious to me. Your humor, your emotions, your music, I love them all as your fan. You don't know what it means for me to be in the same team with you. You're doing great so let's keep fighting, making up and staying close. I love you.

    — Hyunjin to Han

I love how they don't mind sharing about some of their fights publicly like:

Like, that's some raw human emotions right here. Their dynamic is always intriguing.

  • They're so honest and vulnerable in these.. It's to the point I'm almost shocked it's even included in the video. Takes some guts to say some of these things even privately, let alone publicly (and to a fanbase that has quite a lot of already overbearing and annoying fans in it lol..).

I'm not someone who care about watching content like variety etc. I never watch SKZ Code for example, but this 2 Kids Room episode with those two even I watched. Because it's just so.. human? and it's nice to be able to see some of those parts of them as well. They come across so emotionally intelligent, so it's interesting to hear how they think and navigate their relationship.

You described perfectly in one phrase when you said "I'm almost shocked It's even included in the video", because this was on my mind during many parts of the episode. There are some things I'd never except from an idol to say publicly. Actually there are some things hard to say publicly even If you aren't famous.

I like how they talk about their fights/disagreements without thinking of how It might harm the image the fans have of Stray Kids and their chemistry as tight-knit group. In the end, It doesn't. This actually makes their bond seem more sincere.

It also gaves us some informations about how in 2023 the members were in a bad place mentality and It was something the fandom was perceiving back then due to circustances, but now they are using 2KR to share some of their experiences about It publicly after being comfortable. Last week Lee Know was talking about burn out too.

If they weren't genuinely close, then they wouldn't have these conversations like this, or maybe they'd never even have big fights to begin with, because crying and shouting at each other requires emotional investment. They don't act like formal co-workers, they've a very deep and complex bond.

I'm guessing this is why JYP publishes it, they know and also see in the clips that, despite kind of airing "dirty laundry" in a way, it actually legitimizes their friendship to the audience. But the extent they go into it is still surprising to me.

I knew 2023 was rough. I remember during 5-Star they mentioned something like they didn't really have the ability to enjoy the release or success or anything. It is admirable that they're letting fans in a bit by talking more about it. I hope they're all in a much better place nowadays (which I think they are).
