[theqoo] For your first trip to Europe you should go: Spain vs Italy

  • In the past, people often thought of Paris or London when traveling to Europe,

but these days, more and more people are recommending these two places instead (though it might not be that recent, it could’ve been a trend for a while)

    1. Spain

In the case of Spain, people usually visit Portugal as well

    2. Italy

For Italy, people tend to visit various smaller towns,
and sometimes they go to Switzerland as well

Both countries have great food and warm weather,
so most people who've been there leave positive reviews

Are there any places you've been to or want to visit?

    original post: here

    1. My first trip to Europe was to Italy, and a few years later, I went to Spain. In conclusion, both were like a dream. I loved them so much

    2. Italy was seriously so so so fun. I want to go back....

    3. I went to both countries and both were amazing. But I liked Italy more.

    4. Spain. I want to go but I'm also attracted by Italy's southern regions

    5. I've only been to Barcelona but it was below my expectations. I liked Portugal 100x more

    6. Isn't Italy pretty rac*st? Has it decreased recently??

    7. Italy was so beautiful that other countries just felt boring in comparison. I was eating gelato instead of rice

    8. For your first Europe trip, you must go to Italy... You can't ignore Rome's influence on other European countries

    9. I liked Spain so muchㅠ I recommend Portugal too...

    10. If you care about the food, Spain. If you care about the view, Italy

  • Italy, for sure - I was just there last month - to see the Roman ruins and the Vatican if nothing else. Sometimes it will feel like you are visiting an "Italy World" theme park in Southern California, because there are so many American tourists. But Italy is the essence of Europe, and it inspired much of what you will find in other European countries.

Asian visitors who are used to crime-free cities need to be very careful and stay alert. Americans who are used to dealing with rougher urban environments will think the bigger Italian cities are not so bad - except for massive amounts of graffiti. I did not see any violent crime in Italy - but thievery and scammers are widespread. Don't let anyone touch you or give you anything.

Food is great everywhere, though as always the further away from a major tourist attraction a restaurant is the better the food (and prices) will be.

Trains are a good way to get between Italian cities - but carrying big suitcases on and off can be difficult.

If you don't like hot weather go offseason. A lot of walking is required and summers are difficult.

You will need three days for Rome, two to three each for Florence and Venice.

  • I was in Venice for a day, and it was enough. Remember went for a walk with friend, we got bit lost and didn't had watch so teacher scolded us LOL.

Overall I was only in north east corridor so I've seen mostly three V cities - Verona, Vicenza, and Venezia. We also had small pit stop in Padova, and a break in the shore of Garda Lake. Sadly I can't remember the name of very small coast city that our hotel was located, but you could seriously step ouf of hotel and you were already on a beach.

Btw I was surprised because I expected clear blue, kind of transparent water, that you could see sand under water and all that but... the sea was flippin dark lol

Yes - water was dark and muddy. Gondola rides in Venice are definitely not worth the money. Canals are very crowded. Fortunately, we had a water taxi ride from the train station and to the airport - which was more fun and much faster than the gondola. Venice is fine, but it's all the same tourist-focused stores. See one street and you've seen them all. The Doge's Palace was interesting, with a lot of historical items. But once is enough. :-)
