I think it had more to do with them having a shaky start with polarizing songs, and a key member leaving the group.
These are great songs and I could list more. I don't think their current music is the problem it's just that they couldn't recover from the shaky start. I can't think of any group that recovered from a shaky start. Also, the group isn't doing that bad they have good sales and one of the best performers.

Plenty of groups have recovered from a shaky start. GI-DLE for example. They survived despite one of the most popular members leaving, being from not just a shitty company but also a shitty + nugu company. Why can't NMIXX do it? They have the talent to pull it off. All they need is better songs. Something JYP has been slacking off with almost all its groups.

To be fair Idle always charted well. The only song that charted outside of the top 20 was Uh Oh. I know competition wasn't as strong when they debuted but they've always charted well and moved a lot of units. Recovering from Soojin scandal was a miracle. She was top 3 in popularity and I thought group was in big trouble. Luckily for them Tomboy was a hit, and the rest is history.
I think the major issue with Nmixx might be title tracks because Love me like this performed well, but following ip with Rollercoaster and Party O'Clock was the wrong move. They needed something stronger to carry on momentum. I think the issue is whenever they get momentum they release something that makes their casual fans leave. The title track is the most important thing and they're not releasing songs to retain casual listeners. They have great b-sides but most of their title tracks doesn't resonate with the public
