    in case she deletes it

  • Does she not realize KPOP has been borrowing American hip hop / R&B music, fashion styles, etc. since the first generation in the '90's??

Example ~ Seo Taiji basically copied Cypress Hill's Insane In The Membrane with Come Back Home and, according to Wikipedia, one of the guys from CH was cool with the similarity of both songs.

Also, Young Posse, a new girl group, debuted wearing hip hop gear as a concept but nobody batted an eye on their appearance, right? Right??????

So, now just because KOL wore the similar type of outfits in a live-stream, it suddenly made everyone else upset, butthurt, and got their panties in a bunch.

    WTF????? The level of hypocrisy!

So many snowflakes in this generation of fandoms is all I'll say.

    Rant over.

  • this is the dumbest shit i've read today, clearly you are oblivious to wtf is going on.

    sit down.

  • Congratulations on completely and utterly failing to understand both the issue and what Fatou is saying. As much as people are whining about snowflakes, even koreans are calling them out for their behavior and that's why Fatou felt comfortable to speak.

  • Ew?

First of all, why is that your only takeaway?

Secondly, no one is getting "butthurt" here but you and absolutely no one cares about their outfit. It was everything but the outfits. It was the gestures, mannerisms, overusing AAVE. They literally said the live was to appreciate hiphop culture then proceeded to act like the stereotypical image of the pioneers behind that culture. That's not appreciation, that's mocking. Stereotypes are very often created and used with a negative connotation, and their live was quite literally an embodiment of that negative stereotype.

Imagine putting kpop over morals. EMBARRASSINGGG

  • Theres a difference between borrowing form the culture and in some cases paying royalties and giving acknowledgement (looking at you YG who by now should know this) and openly mocking that culture as a form of entertainment

  • Why do kpop fans get so defensive when people call out idols when they're insensitive to their culture? This is why idols think they don't have to apologize when they do something wrong because fans coddle them instead of calling them to be better and educate themselves.

I feel it's especially sensitive when it relates to black americans because kpop is heavily influenced by black american culture. It's just I am unsure if there's any respect of the culture among idols and companies. It's weird when fans try to discredit that when it's clear many songs is influenced by rap and r&b music. Plus, a lot of concepts and songs use slang that is often used among black people. That why I feel it's odd when kpop fans try to downplay it

Lastly, it's nice to see knetz are also calling them out. This is allowing Fatou the space to speak her mind on the issue. Sadly, I feel knetz calling them out influenced their 2nd apology more than social media calling them out.

I find it interesting a nugu company set the example on how to apologize. It feels more can learn from this

  • Never apologize for braids its the stupiest example of cultural appropration that exist and is mainly an american/european hangup

  • So, now just because KOL wore the similar type of outfits in a live-stream, it suddenly made everyone else upset, butthurt, and got their panties in a bunch.

    WTF????? The level of hypocrisy!

It was not "just outfits" it was the mocking and making jokes about black people and the "accents". Please do not try to yell over a minority and tell them they cannot be upset about people mocking them.

  • It’s true though. Kpop WOULD be nothing without black culture.

Heck the first kpop group (Seo Taiji and boys) was heavily influenced by black culture.

And Seo Taiji was always very blunt about who inspired him even when people got mad. For as much of a flawed human he is, at least he acknowledged his influences he had from living in the US on and off.
