Highest DIgital Users in 24 hrs ever in Melon - the tenure of IU as the Singer who Hindered KPop's Global Advancement the most

  • Highest 24 hrs users in Melon

    1. iU - Bbibbi (2018) - 1.46 million

    2. EU Got G isn't EU, better known as IU & Park Myungsoo - Leon (2015) - 1.40 million

    3. IU, ft Suga of BTS - Eight (2020) - 1.34 milion

(Bol4's Bom was at 1.37 mil but at that time they counted 27 hrs, not 24 hrs, so it did not beat Eight).

So IU holds the record of all of top 3 in the highest 24 hr users of Melon history.

Although Melon is not what it used to be, it is still watched by a lot of i fans to find out which songs are actually popular in Korea.

Which led to the strange situation of IU being in the same league with BTS, solely because of her domination at the Melon Charts.

The so called Goo Hara law only prevents parents who did not raise their offspring from benefiting when the child dies. There is no law in Korea to prevent the parents who had done nothing to raise a child when the child is alive.

So Lee Jieun's Senior Singer status is still alive as long as KPop is around, since KPop is not dead. Which leads Lee Jieun to profit from KPop, even though she did not do anything to advance, expand or maintain it, due to the fact that she was made KPop's Senior Singer by MAMA back in 2014 after it awarded her the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Because of this the singer who never charted in Billboard Hot 100, never charted in Spotify and never officially released a song in USA to have a world tour, actually largest of all singers originating from Korea excluding Japan in this year.

Today is the 16th anniversary of the Singer who was unwilling, and probably unable, to contribute anything toward the advancement, the extension and the world conquest of KPop.

It is amazing KPop had tolerated someone who only had malice on it for so long, but as KPop retreats from all fronts, her presence will begin to hurt quite big.

  • To be frank, IU doesn't need to push for the advancement of K-pop beyond its borders. She's a soloist. She can comfortably rely on the money she generates in South Korea alone while touring outside every so often. Her sound is a very South Korean sound, not something to advertise in America.

Companies that rely on boygroups and girlgroups have a larger incentive to move out because there is a possible niche to exploit for group-centered music since South Korea's entertainment industry currently has room for groups unlike in America, where it's a bit silly to debut groups since then end of the 90s. Groups, compared to soloists, are very expensive all things considered, especially if you operate multiple groups.

Other countries are also not wanting soloists. There are plenty of soloists everywhere. Where is IU supposed to find her niche as a soloist in America when you have thousands of American soloists from the very famous to the indies? She wouldn't be advancing anything.

  • I still don't understand OP's position on IU.

Constantly contrasting how IU holds her own - particularly in SK -despite all the crazy success of Kpop groups internationally - whyknock is a hardcore IU fan.

But what's unique is the style, that of complaining that IU, a single soloist, by being an anomaly to the trends of the industry is "holding back" the industry.

So complimenting in the form of complaining, whyknock had made it into an art form.

Added with larger doses of mediaeval history.

    Enjoy.

Her very presence created a dual system of KPop, with the Kpop singers having to think about the domestic audience, domestic market, etc.

Without her, most companies would have ceased domestic activities altogether, since the domestic market would have been as relevant as the baseball leagues of Caribbean countries or soccer leagues of South America.

She alone made the domestic market relevant, which forced virtually all acts to divert some effort to Korea , changing the direction quite a lot.

  • Her height has been the longest of any singers, 14 years

And, because virtually all acts originating from Korea has to deal with her sooner or later, greatly skewing the importance of domestic market which would have become completely irrelevant without her, her alone.

Well if the groups couldn't wean Koreans away from appreciating her music, how is that her fault or problem?

And Koreans can have different tastes.

Consumers have no strategic investment in matters of taste and enjoyment.
