Since she is American, she is being more honest than normal kpop idols would be.

She has been in the industry long enough to understand that numbers are important.

She knows that opportunities may not come if the money invested in her music is not recovered by her company.

I am sure lots of idols think the same when their music under performs their expectations, they just can say it.
