QWER '가짜 아이돌' Official MV

  • yup i've seen all these. honestly i have no idea why i tried to correct you, it was all just technicalities anyways.

chodan openly criticized feminists and makes it clear she doesn't want to be associated with them.

is chodan wrong for criticizing feminists and calling them crazy bitches? like i said in my explanation post yes and not really. her life would have been destroyed had she not "proven" herself by doing what she did.

that's how i viewed it anyways.

  • care to explain then? :)

well i myself dont really know what exactly happened back then as i dont live in korea let alone in her university and im sure you dont too , and im sure that article too what i learned is the situaton back then is a mess as a female streamer killed herself after get bullied by male extremist after saying she's a feminist.anything after that i dont really know what exactly happened in there back then.so i just hope you dont judge someone if you dont really know what happened :)

I actually understand Korean so I was able to confirm the quotes from the k boo article were indeed correctly translated. In addition to her tone, it's very clear what she means.

Context matters. She was being pressured (by her male fans) for a "statement" once she revealed where she studied (Sungshin woman's university), because there was a scandal at the time in that same university involving a male professor who was accused of sexual assault and was therefore kicked out, which originated a MeToo movement from feminists. Hence why men wanted her to speak out, to admit if she was part of that group. Those are the "crazy bitches" she's talking about and doesn't want to be associated with.

    Recent article on the case:

The former professor of Sungshin Women's University, who was put on trial for sexually harassing her.. - MK
The former professor of Sungshin Women's University, who was put on trial for sexually harassing her students, received a higher sentence than the first trial…

  • okay then so that article is indeed taken without context a cheap clickbait article.i just dont want any missinformation happened.

  • are we sure this case is the same as the one with the metoo one? i have dug through both male and female sites about this and there's so much conflicting information in korean but i can only rely on translation services

there's this comment on the chodan video you posted that claims that there are two separate cases with two different professors

though it doesn't even really change my view about the situation

Could be, but it also does not affect my opinion either way.

  • criticizing her for her anti-feminist remarks and not supporting the group because of her? fine by me honestly

calling the group misogynistic and spreading false rumors about how they've done porn and sexually harassing them? how does that contribute to women's rights?

THIS! I agree completely. The rest, I don't know, because as you said, you're biased, and I'm sure it's not the whole story, and honestly, based on what you said, I don't think she did anything wrong.

There are a LOT of people who call themselves "feminists" yet, they're attacking women for no reason. It's the same what's happening with Christians. They're preaching about God, yet, they steal money, rape people, little kids, killing people in the "name of God" etc.

Anyway. My opinion is that you don't have to be a feminist to respect women rights. Also, she's young, and probably said something she didn't want to, but it happened because people made her angry. This is how this streaming world works. It's probably more toxic than anything, especially for women.

  • So, in short, she has her own opinion that men forced out of her, and now they hate her.

What a surprise. I mean, sure, what she said isn't good at all, BUT it's not like she said EVERY Feminist is crazy. She referred to a specific group of people. And that's a different story.

Honestly, even tho that MeToo movement was a good thing on the surface, it caused more problems than helped people. So many people were accused of no reason. And the real abusers and victims were forgotten because of that.

  • OP are you going to use this thread as their Album comeback thread, or are you going to create a new one?

  • Chodan's comments are disappointing for sure.

My opinion is bias for sure, but Feminism has been more good than bad for society over all, Korea is still a very male chauvinistic country, so I can see why there is a strong backlash against feminism there.

You can see it in the polling on how far their women and men are diverging politically. the patriarchy is not going to go down with out a fight.

Having said that, every movement has toxic fans, kpop fans know this very well, there are toxic blinks, toxic once, toxic ARMY, ect.

So perhaps Chodan did have a bad experience with some feminist in her university and is now generalizing feminism (even if it is limited to the "crazy bitches" in her college).

Then again I would imagine that her fan base is very male oriented, so throwing feminist under the bus may be a way to please her fans, a weird type of fan service.

Now enter Soyeon, there is no doubt that Soyeon is a strong female and if she is a fan of the group and if she knows the controversies surrounding the group but is still ok to support them, then that is good enough for me, in Seyeon I trust.

That makes me see why some feminist may be disappointed with Soyeon, because people like me can use the appeal to authority fallacy regarding her support of QWER.

  • i agree with most of what you said except the fan service thing.

feminism has always been more good than bad. even if there are bad actors supporting it in a general sense is always the correct choice. that's why it's disappointing to see chodan so vocally against feminism no matter the context.

i won't stop supporting the group just because of this though. i still see it as her defending herself since it's not like she randomly mentioned this out of nowhere. people trying to spin this as her being not for equal human rights or the whole group being misogynistic aren't feminists lol. they're just evil people trying to bring the group down. not to mention before the whole feminist thing was revealed the same "feminists" were the ones who piled on misogynistic comments about the group's past spreading false rumors like how the members have done porn or have sex tapes.

i can't say for sure but i'm guessing that soyeon already knows about this, like someone must've told her. they'll take care of it, it's been a few years since she has said these stuff anyways. things have changed and feminism is growing stronger in korea. the members aren't stupid and can think for themselves so i'm sure they'll figure it out.
