The gap between NewJeans and the field in Korea remains insurmountable

  • I don't remember Twice having such charting power in korea, like ever. So TF?? comparaison makes no sense ?(.

  • History never agrees with ifs, so we will never know ;judgingpepe:

Even if I am not fan of Nj artistry, I will say that the only good song released by them this year is Supernatural! It is much more upbeat than Bubble gum and more dynamic than How Sweet

I know, im not someone who relies strongly on ifs either but BG topping the charts during the heat of the conflict and the conference boost was very very likely to happen. Specially since it was also their first release in 10 months.

Also for me there is no doubt that Supernatural korean release would have dominated the k charts like crazy. The fact that the japanese version entered the top 5 is actually insane!

But yeah, Supernatural is a great song!

  • Those two single albums released with a 4 weeks interval was weird as fuck but Ador earned probably tons of money from that and it will be useful to promote the full album ;judgingpepe: The main project of the year is that album, hope the release will not be postponed to next year due to the hybe/ador drama

People keep talking about it like a regular comeback, but it was a strategy to break into the Japanese market. One city pop sounding song in Bubblegum, Newjack swing Supernatural sampling a Japanese song and Murakami for Right Now. The only odd one out is How Sweet, but it is like Ive's pepsi song. They probably did it for the endorsement money to fund the other songs.

By how the fan meeting turned out with the members getting some viral moments, I think it was a success as far as what they set out to do.

I do agree that it wasn't as big of a success with the international crowd, but it is a much more crowded field internationally compared to last year.

  • seems aespa has a different opinion

Both aespa and newjeans and esp IU showed how everything depends on a song. Supernova is killing it but armageddon is already out of top 10. It doesn't mean aespa overtook nj.

While nj with super bad songs all 3 are still in top 10

iu title didn't hit #1 but gidle's and another singer's song iirc blocked her bc koreans didn't like iu's second title song. Doesn't mean IU is a flop, does it?

anyway, this chart clearly shows that nj are still #1. Even with crazy lwy fans zombie streaming it, it shows the public is with nj for now

  • IU is definitely trying out a new phase.

In the latest EP, only Love Wins All, is signature IU. Other 4 songs are deviation from what was expected of her.

However the TTs still debuted in top #10 and all other songs in this #25.

That's an underperformance only by her own standards, since she at least gets 2 PAK songs, since whenever.

    But otherwise they are successful.

While it is true that even for IU, it depends on the song, that "dependency" is far less for her, than most other acts, when it comes to Korean public.

It is that low dependency that makes legendary cultural icons and not trending/not trending idols.

  • I'm getting tired of people coming for the quality of their recent releases.

Supernatural is absolutely one of their best title tracks. Let's not pretend otherwise.

How Sweet and Bubblegum are growers, and Right Now is a fun, catchy song.

By the way, I like how the entire K-Pop community ignores how Right Now is still in the top 100 on MelOn despite having virtually no Korean in it.

Compare Right Now to aespa's latest Japanese title track, and see which song performed the best in Korea. And put the silly dialogue about some rotating top girl group crown to rest.

    There is only one.
