They keep waiting for me to become that which I have made fun of for years--a jaded girl group stan insecure about the fall from the mountaintop and the rise of a new power, but it won't happen.
I like ILLIT.
They aren't NewJeans, but I like their music so far
Getting into chart and sales wars as a NJ fan is like being a fan of Michael Jordan in his prime, so I don't mind some competition to keep things s little interesting

This is like comparing Van Gogh with an up-and-coming painter. 😅
No offense to NewJeans, but when they will have a career after 17 years, we can compare the two of them. SNSD was big when Kpop wasn't mainstream. I know a lot of fans won't like this, but NewJeans only massive, because of BTS. Without BTS, there's no NJ or any other HYBE group, honestly. Like it or not, NewJeans has the easy route, like many other BIG4 groups nowadays.
Kpop is a totally different "game" now.

Everybody loves looking back with rose tinted glasses apparently, but NewJeans hands down. They are the #1 girl group in Korea in virtually every category and all of their songs completely dominated the charts. The only real mega hit SNSD had was Gee, yet they weren't even the second best charting girl group overall during 2nd gen. Not to mention NJ's international success which SNSD never had, even at 2nd gen standards.
