Do you remember the 2010s as a great decade for K-Pop?

  • I'm in a contemplative mood (getting a gift C-19 Hyung will do that), and I started reflecting on the past decade of K-Pop.

I mean, for me, it's when I actually gave it a shot and fell in love with the music, groups, dancing, fandoms--everything. The highs were so incredibly high, but man, the lows of the 2010s were so brutal that they made me question all the highs on occasion.

I hope the 2020s have more highs and lows.

  • were the 2010s more or less "great" compared to the 2000s or 2020s?

I can't say. I wasn't even remotely aware of K-Pop in the 2000s. And the 2020s aren't even halfway done.

All I have are my precious 2010s with K-Pop, beginning in 2012. Like, the introduction to the wonderful, wide world of K-Pop is a magical experience, but some things that happened in the last decade shattered my perception of K-Pop in several ways too (and that's not a bad thing).

I've spent the 2020s being a much more self-aware fan at least.

  • I feel like 2010s is way more enjoyable to consume KPOP

But 2020s is more enjoyable to talk about KPOP

I honestly am kinda like....tired to see new groups at the moment but lucky I have all of you messy ass bitches to chit chat with or else my kpop life would be so boring just be talking to myself

My love for K-Pop as a whole almost fizzled out entirely in 2020, with the assistance of COVID-kun. My favorite group of all time became probably 70% less active as a group, and the spark just wasn't there for me personally with the new groups.

It wasn't until summer 2022 that some no-name group debuted out of nowhere and re-ignited my interest, which then transferred directly to all their same generation peers I hadn't taken an interest in up until that point.

But I was DAMN close to being done. I'm sure my opps had their Arthur moment wishing I'd chosen that instead lmao

I actually told myself that 2017 I shall stop KPOP, when Sistar disbanded

Honestly I can't remember how I got back into KPOP. It might be IZ*ONE?

I think it might be something like IZ*ONE having La Vie En Rose which was meant to be a CLC song and it made me curious and somehow I got retrapped. And not sure how I found out about Day6 and then it's over Day6 now became my all time bias group

But now I'm kinda like .... lazy to find others groups. Honestly if they aren't popular from the start I might just ignore them I'm evidence that Big 4 privilege is real.

Not H1-Key though LOVE YOU H1-KEY so glad I manage to find them

  • Fromis_9 was supposed to be my version of IZ*ONE. I legit watched all of Idol School from start to finish.

And then there was a manufactured bullying scandal and then the Produce 101 Rigging scandal, which for some reason hurt Fromis_9 way more (probably because they're a permanent group...?).

I still like them, but I didn't end up stanning them anywhere near the level I do with Mamamoo or you-know-who currently.

Like you though, I am not investing time to find any and every group with a concept that interests me like I did during the 2010s. That phase is over for me.

  • Same like I'm .... contented? With what I have now. If there really is a new group that magically suck me into them then so be it
