Will KPop companies ditch the "Standard Contract" and return to the age of "Slavery Contract"?

  • Which they want to revive if they can.

    That'll be hard.

  • That'll be hard.

Because of the changed conditions, 7 years would be when an act peaks, with a few more years of foreign activities and since that's when the contract is renegotiated companies won't claim as much income from these acts as they would before the 7 years is up

Companies want to extract the last penny from the acts, but because of JYJ they could not and some members were free to leave. And now they want to force contracts for 10 year, 13 year or beyond

The growth of Kpop is coming with some healthy changes for example, many idols win law suits against their labels lately. Labels are also finding it difficult to keep patent rights to idol group names once they leave like Big Hit tried with Gfriend and failed.

It'll be hard for slave contracts to come back with out a proper fight.

The president of Korea has put Yoo Inchon in charge of all cultural things. Yoo is an actor who is best known for playing Lee Myungbak, a successful executive , in a TV show. Lee Myungbak later became the President of Korea (2008-2013), and Yoo served as the Minister of Culture during Myungbak's time.

Not surprisingly Yoo is not a young man. He is 72 now. And it was the announcement that Yoo was going to meet with the KPop company owners on the Fifty Fifty issue which led the court to decide in Jeon's favor since the President sending Yoo to take care of this seemingly small matter showed where the President's will was.

It is likely that old school 'reforms' will be implemented upon Yoo's tutelage, basically returning Korean entertainment to 1990s when Yoo was a popular actor instead of playing politics.

The companies will use this chance to push the 'reforms' they want, namely scrapping the Standard Contract and reintroducing the Slave Contract, which Yoo (and the President of Korea) is likely to approve.

If such politicians have the power to decide who wins in court then idols are in trouble because politics is a dirty game that leads to corruption.

In Korea, who runs the government is very, very important on everything

Which is why the Armies complaining to the government about sending BTS to events was not a wise thing.

The ousted president Park Geunhye is known to have met Shinee's Minho, IOI's Sejeong, and had invited IU, Jaejoong and a musical actor to the Presidential Palace for some event. None of them refused back then

I thought they get invited for celebration purposes and to represent Korea and idols at events. I didn't know it was political.

Any 'national event' involving the President is political since if the performer does not like the president the performer could decline to show up
