After Bambam’s incident, what’s your opinion now on debuting minors

  • what’s your opinion now on debuting minors 9

    1. Minor idols should stop debuting. Period. AND I will boycott them (3) 33%
    2. Minor idols should stop debuting. Period. But I won’t boycott them (4) 44%
    3. Only minors in Big3/4 can debut, not in smaller companies (0) 0%
    4. Any minor idol can debut (2) 22%

Imagine a lot of minor trainees and idols in a company with senior male idols and these male idols somehow finding them their “ideal type”. Literally what protections are in place to keep these minors safe from the huge power imbalance of famous, and influential senior male idols?

  • I think 16 should be the minimum age for idol debuts. I grew up in a different era where we didnt coddle or infantilize teens once they reach a certain point. Both with respect to all the sex-based bullshit that gets thrown at you (creepy old men, sponsorships, casting couch, etc) and all the other workplace problems that everyone faces like bullying, overwork, nonsexual abuse, etc. 16 is old enough to understand the darker underworld of the entertainment industry, and know what you're getting into.

HOWEVER, i do think Kpop needs to do a much better job of balancing work/school/rest for everyone 17 or under. Esp those really young tween/teen trainees. In fact, i would ban trainees under 14.

14 would be the minimum age of a trainee.

16 would be the minimum age of an idol.

Everyone 14-17 would get reduced work hours and TONS MORE REST. If that means only one comeback per year, so be it. Everyone in this age range would be guaranteed normal sleep hours, NO 2AM PRACTICES OR STAGES, only a few hours of training/performances per day, free weekends, etc. Sleep is CRITICALLY IMPORTANT ESPECIALLY FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS. Also labels would be required to encourage idols that want to lose weight to do it in a healthy manner (exercise and fitness and muscle development rather than starvation diets). We need to redefine the visual ideals for an idol to slim fit versus the current heroine chic.

  • minors should never debut in kpop, period. it shouldn't even be a discussion at this point. I know companies will not stop debuting minors, just look at ador, they are allowing kids born in 2012 to join their company. kpop is not the place for children at all. working long hours, dieting, open to hatred and criticism from the public, predators, I mean the list just goes on. seeing new jeans have 40 year old fans is not okay, you can like their music but going to fan meetings? I mean come on. I think that companies shouldn't accept trainees that are still in middle school, high school 16 - 17 that's fine as long as they are not dieting harshly, but debuting when your only 16 or 14, I just don't get it.

  • The same as it was knowing people like you are into Kpop teshub.

A 98-liner would have been 15 in 2013. All EXO-K members were adults by then.

Especially if it means accusing others.
