Should kpop REALLY be considered a music genre?

  • Considering that most of biggest profits comes from idols using their faces, being brand ‘ambassadors’, CFs, photo shoots, acting.

You may be asking, “wHaT aBoUt aLbUm SALeS”. Millions are being sold for fan signs or video calls to WATCH THEIR FACES. Or for bragging about achievements, looking at the photo books, or have them as displays. In comparison, very few are actually buying albums to listen to the CDs.

Kpop should be considered a visual entertainment medium, with music as a sub-component, similar to what Disney does.

When record sales comes from a few seconds of an idol’s face and zero seconds from their vocals, it pretty much confirms it.

  • kpop itself has music genres such as pop, rnb, ballads, etc

music genres are universal and general because it does not define a single music

a bollywood music, a kpop song and a british music can be recognised under the same genre even with very different music style

but yeah as the above user said, kpop is a growing music industry especially in 4th gen

and kpop is entering its experimental phase with all that mixing up genres, antidrops or 'noise' musics

its honestly refreshing to see multiple groups pull off different sounds

  • Teshub.... Bait threads again.... *sigh* I'll leave this one as you actually provided a conversation and valid reasoning but if it gets hostile like others in the past I will lock it.

Technically anything that can be discussed can be considered "bait" based on different people's subjective tolerance for that specific discussion.
