I used to be scared of this anime character

or actually she is also from a Finnish children's book.

But I saw the anime before I took a look inside the book.

Well... she scared the heck out of me when I was younger.

A bit embarrassing fact, but I got over the fear of that character 2 years ago.

Yup, that is pretty recent.

Or it was more like me getting jumpscares every time I saw images of her and stuff, which made me never want to watch the Moomin anime. (until recently)

It is a children's anime, but I feel like an adult can appreciate it too.

The entire show scared me when I was a kid

There is this one episode where the son or something belives he had passed away after a lot of black roses started to be planted in their village's country side and he was super scared and constantly belived he was dead and cried just cause this one red haired girl told him black roses would mean someone died and since his family or something had planted them and nobody was talking to him he belived he died and was just a ghost that nobody could see. He cried after his mom all the time but nobody was answering back till at the end of the episode the mom came around and said "stop crying, whats wrong?" and he said he belived he was dead
