Pomegranate
OR
Cranberry
Which green?
Green beans
OR
Brussels sprouts
OR
Broccoli
OR
Salad
Most of these polls I couldn't even vote cause I haven't tried them
Dark meat of a turkey is so much better than the white meat. And I don't know what it is. I guess the taste of dark meat is more rich than the lighter meat.
neither I don't like stuffing

Cranberry
Cranberry! We always have cranberry sauce and that's the thing I look forward to the most each Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner (our Christmas day dinner is really similar to our Thanksgiving one). I don't think I've ever actually had pomegranate but I've definitely heard of it.
well I come from down under so maybe I've never really had "good" stuffing
EDIT: also I'm Chinese so I've probably never had "good" stuffing lol

My grandma has never made homemade stuffing, it's always been store bought so that's all I've ever known.

It's between potato salad and mashed potatoes (sometimes even those sweet potato cubes). We've not really had scalloped potatoes for Thanksgiving dinner.
it’s made of bread, herbs and seasonings and (if you’re doing it right) veg like onions and celery and broth to help soften it and add flavor. I guess they used to stuff them in the turkey but that’s a big food safety no-no, so most people don’t do that anymore.
I love stuffing. There’s nothing else on the table I need. 😂
My mom makes an awesome sourdough walnut bread stuffing. My grandma used to make an amazing cornbread stuffing, although she always called hers dressing. I’ve seen people call it stuffing or dressing.
Perfect opportunity to put a ham vs. turkey poll. Just sayin'
(I'm just kidding)
yeah I've also never had that either...

Ah, you're right. Though I personally could not tell others what stuffing actually was because ours is usually store bought. I've never actually seen anyone make it for our Thanksgiving/Christmas dinners.
I will say that we also don't stuff them in turkeys and I can see why that could be a health hazard.

entirely possible. Good stuffing requires you season tf out of it. Making the stuffing is one of my T-day jobs and the first time my mom had me make it, I was surprised how much seasoning I had to add. (As I’m adding in ingredients, I season to taste. It’s shocking how much I have to add altho that’s why ours tastes so good. It felt weird to not be making the stuffing this morning.)

Green Bean Casserole
OR
candied yams
I've actually haven't had any of these but candied yams looks and sounds more appetizing imo. It reminds me of a mac and cheese type casserole that my aunt used to make that looked and tasted absolutely delicious. And it kind reminds me of that lol

oh word!! that sounds delicious

gah!!! I was racking my brains trying to think of this and that’s which weren’t too specific (like cornbread or sourdough stuffing, butterflake or brown & serve) and missed the obvious one!
well you gotta remember that I'm Chinese so I celebrate all the Chinese events like mid-autumn festival and Chinese new year which are celebrated in Spring and Autumn (there aren't really much winter festival celebrations to my knowledge)
but as an Aussie maybe just Christmas but like I said before it's like 40 C (104 F) plus so bbqs are pretty common - lots of seafood

I think both of these are quite disgusting actually. Green bean casserole is just..an abomination. Candied yams are too sweet to me. But they are polarizing dishes so I thought a fun addition!

Haha, don't worry about it. I feel like the thread is still perfect the way it is. Feel free to add it if you like and maybe you can add it to the OP to keep them all in one place!

What foods are traditional for the mid-autumn festival?

Oh, pretty interesting!
BBQ on Christmas...that sounds pretty interesting lol.
I asked because one, you're on the other side of the world and two, our Christmas dinner is almost the exact same as our Thanksgiving dinner: Turkey and/or ham, green beans, fancy buns, cranberry sauce, stuffing, rice, a form of a potato dish, mac & cheese, sauerkraut, dessert. And it would usually only be 6-7 people (my mom, dad, brother, grandma, grandpa, me and 7 if my aunt could make it)
We've never celebrated Thanksgiving with my mom's family since it's our tradition to go to my dad's family over Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. We do find time to go visit our mom's family though.
I am personally Team Ham.
Whether it's cheap and heavily processed deli sandwich ham or the fancy ham you get for Thanksgiving and other special occasions, ham always takes the cake.
I'm sorry but I think Turkey has to be made really well to be good. It could sometimes end up being too dry and hard to chew as a result. I also despise deli sandwich turkey. Most disgusting thing--
fwiw..
I voted
Turkey
White meat
sweet potato (I don’t even like the other two)
Pomegranate
Homemade stuffing
Mashed potatoes (altho my auntie’s scalloped potatoes are divine)
Green beans (I like them all but when I think about Tday, I think of green beans made with a ham hock in them (if my grandma) or bacon (if my mom who thinks ham hocks are too salty)
I couldn’t vote on the last one because they’re both 🤢

Oh sauerkraut- that’s an interesting addition! Does it go on top of something or is it a side on its own?
