To be fair to them it’s only one exoL replying to the comments there. “bLaMe sM fOr tHeIr bAd pRoMoTiOnS fOr eXo”… “they could have been more popular than bts and bp in the US!” TBH, some of them live too much in the “what if” bubble. I don’t think they could have been more popular than bp in the US, maybe just twice level. They have too many members and the members don’t stand out individually to casuals and non-fans.
It's not just one Exo l in this thread, there's a bunch more on the main forms (check out the X vs Exo in Korea threads) who say very ridiculous stuff to make Exo look like the bigger bigger group when evidentially they're not.
As for America SM already tried with an Exo lite with SuperM and results were mixed. On the one hand they sold albums and toured like a normal kpop group but totally shit the bed on digital charts. If a smaller more focused couldn't do anything on charts even with a bunch of multi fans behind them what was Exo going to do? Even worse likely. NCT and it's units also show they useless in America charts too.
