    Extereme Christian/religious groups scare me -- they try to leverage incidents to fit their agenda. I grew up going to a hard core Baptist church per my Dad's request and the way they tried to pressure me into getting a baptism was really traumatic because basically everyday, they said I would go to hell until I do it etc. I never did it.


    This also reminds me of my best friend, her Korean mom is a super conservative Christian. Her mom burnt her stuff and forbade her to have any tradditional Asian looking items because it is not Christian etc.


    Then my other bestie growing up was half-Japanese. Her mom belongs to Soka Gakkai, a new Japanese buddhist "religion movement" with very cult like behaviours...., she tried hard to recruit me into it -- and it's very group activity heavy with membership dues and mandatory purchase of sacred items and chanting. On this note, my Chinese grandma was also a follower, but it didn't feel right to me who also grew up with Theravada Buddhism from my mom - where you don't need anything but yourself to be enlightened.
