Keep dreaming, even if they are forgotten like op is implying their legacy as the biggest kpop act ever will still live on, ain't no kpop act existing right now will be able to snatch that title away.

It's the cycle of kpop. Many huge bands or artists that broke or set records have been forgotten, BTS are just the next casualty of fickle fans. (Watch fans ask which bands to prove my point).
Their popularity will drop while they're enlisted no matter what fans think. It's more important if they can win fans back after their enlistment.

BTS already left their legacy and even if they disband, their names will always be listed out among the greats, the legends.
Next kpop group might be able to reach some of BTS’ achievements (good example is BB200, now no one cares about SKZ getting it because it has been done before. Many times. Another example is album sales, when BTS did it, it was huge because no one has sold more but now no one cares when a group reach 1M sales except their fans).
So there might be other groups surpassing BTS in certain areas, but because they just follow the path that BTS paved, it’s not that monumental (still big but not that huge).
So they won’t be forgotten. They might not be as huge as now but that’s normal.

"Every top BG that was at the top declined after military service". You see, all those top BG never accomplished 1/3 of what BTS had. Those top BG were never as globally relevant as BTS so you're comparing apples to oranges.
Until BTS come back in 2025, I hope your faves will make use of the BTS military hiatus to their advantage. If by 2025 and they still could not reach BTS of 2018-2019, then they're hopeless. Good luck! LOL

why'd they decrease in everything except Physical sales from Oddinary to Maxident...
lower spotify debut for both song and album (album streams were lower despite having 1 more song)
lower YT views (only got saved by ads)
lower US streams in general
do i need to mention those boys can't even chart in the top 200 of melon.

SKZ comeback has underperformed on every metric except album sales and even then Billboard exposed their 10 versions.
So called Kpop successors of BTS are more mediaplay and hype than actual merit.

BTS in their fifth year scored 2 hot100 hits, #1 album,topped kcharts and sold out two stadiums. Stray kids are in their fifth year now and they are nowhere near where BTS stood on their fifth year. They can bag these album records due to fans mass buying but they will never score actual hits like BTS because their song is not charting anywhere especially in their home country.

This is a big setup. I won't blame armys if they reply to this. Stray kids and kpop fans are getting too cocky over stray kids little success.
