Diagnosed with BDD today

  • BDD, Body Dismorphia Disorder

Well it didn't surprise me that much, I kinda saw it coming but it just feels weird

My therapist wants to take things to next level and proceed with a psychiatrist

Don't know man, I know my mental health isn't the best but lately I feel like there's something seriously wrong with me. It's not a day-to-day thing for most people to recieve psychiatric help

Just makes me feel like a freak honestly

  • The biggest things and sometimes the hardest thing is to ask for or accept help.

It's hard to release your pride sometimes but it's more important to take care of yourself.

You're the most important person in your world.

I left my heart in LA again. Please continue taking good care of it.

  • Hmm... I wouldn't put yourself down for it. Obviously, yes you should get any help you need to recover, but so many people experience things like that. More than we think, you know? That is fine and not something you should be judged for. Taking the steps to recover and getting support from loved ones is great and important. Work on taking positive actions and confiding to those you trust. You will prevail <3

  • I hope you realize that it should be the other way around, that help should offered and received far more often and not stigmatized as it is. If you need examples, look no further than anons.

I knowww but most people get therapy. Psychology is different from psychiatry from what I know. Psychologists treat patients with mental issues while psychiatrists treat like the serious cases, yknow dementia and other compromising disorders. Anyone can go to therapy but psychiatry is a whole thing in itself :pepe-puddle:

that is both correct and wrong at the same time.

    Yes, psychiatry is different.

But that's just because it is done by actual doctors.

Psychologists are not doctors btw, not MD.

It has to do with the chemical balance in the brain, if you have one hormone that is over producing and teenagers are the most susceptible of this, it would need balancing.

It's just like going to the doctor, nothing more, nothing less (since they are a doctor)

  • You're not a freak. You have a problem that you have acknowledged and asked for help, so you're already on the right track.

BDD is common among young people. The fact that your therapist recommended a psychiatrist for you shouldn't scare you this much. If anything, your psychiatrist will help you with more therapy as well as prescribe a serotonin inhibitor medication. Don't worry and follow their instructions.

Stay strong. You're beautiful inside and outside :hug-raccoon:

If it makes you feel any better, know that I have a psychiatrist and have have gone to psychiatry appointments just the same. I stand by my point above - it should not be stigmatized and far more are in need of services that may not go for fear of a stupid stigma. Health is health. Take care of the whole person. Your mind is also part of you.
