  • Yes! It's somewhat of a hobby for me to photograph atmospheric optical phenomena... I say somewhat because I never know when they'll appear and I still don't know the correct settings to photograph them :S

    Do you have high thin clouds where you are? Cirrus clouds are very whispy looking. I tend to see the most optical phenomena appearing when they're around (halos, sundogs, iridescence).


    I've seen less colorful iridescence with other types of clouds, too. Usually I block the sun with a building if there aren't other clouds blocking it.

    Fluffy high clouds (or a mix) can show optical phenomena, too. It's actually not as rare as people think. I see them all the time because I look all the time lol.


    If you want to try, I suggest looking in the afternoon, so it's easier to block the sun. Sundogs show up easily to the right and left of the sun. Those are most common where I am. Iridescence and halos are second most common. Cold weather helps, but it can really hot here, and they still show up.
