I think most people look at sales to 1 dimensionally. On surface level, yes, it is "just 1 million"
Few things to keep in mind
1.) Frequent comebacks - Money is a limited resource which for obvious reason (but many seem to overlook) there's only a finite number of things you can purchase within your budget. The more comeback you have, the less spending power fans have toward other purchase, sometimes they have to choose one or the others. We frequently have fans here talking about how their next paycheck maybe then can buy ONE copy, just think about that for a second in relation to what we're talking about. Now remember Twice had...oh I dont even remember how many comebacks and tours and Japanese releases since the last time BP and Aespa came back.
2.) People don't all start the race the same. Twice started at an era before K-pop is huge in the west. Twice also did not have much hype for their debut. Correct me if I'm wrong, Twice's first album only sold around 700 copies on first day? We don't have the benefit of the momentous start some 4th gen groups already have, Twice had to really build their sales slow and steadily.
3.) Twice is a 7 year old group. While may think this is an advantage, it is not. As a generation of fan age, they move on with life and priorities change. While Twice is still acquiring new fans, the fan acquisition rate vs new groups will be much lower due to reasons such as uncertain future, wanting to invest in the newest group, etc, so 1 million for a 7 year old group is very impressive still
4.) Twice is not following trends. Bubble concept was popular at the time Twice debuted but nobody would argue that the trend has since shifted to "girl crush" have way into their career" and then to whatever you want to call 4th gen music, mix music, mellow calm music, whatever, Twice isn't that. Even when they spread to the west, they kept their sound and identify instead of catering to the west.
All the above mention are disadvaanges.
So no, it's not as simple as "Twice sold 1 million" it's Twice sold 1 million with all the above mentioned stacked against them.
