That was a disastrous year. Most 2nd gen girl groups didn't "trail off," they disbanded. I don't think you can compare that to the current situation. The small number of 3rd gen groups who are still around are the ones who have already proven their staying power and are looking like they will easily last longer than nearly all the 2nd gen groups did.

blackpink is huge being #2 on melon and #1 everywhere else proves that they are Kore's pride and joy when it comes to girl groups and considering pink venom is not a song everyone is they are doing extremely well.

guys I sincerely believe that BP records can be broken. Nobody imagined that the records of SNSD or Twice could be broken and now we are witnessing the generational change with New Jeans. Most of the PG, singers and actors are supporting New Jeans and their fandom is made up more by women, never in the years of listening to kpop have I seen a balanced Korean fandom like NewJeans. Everyone can say that Korea is irrelevant but think about why YG is still mediaplaying in Korea.
