I've never heard any of their songs.

I think it's a good pick for representing a certain feeling of the golden age of kpop circa 2nd gen.
It has all the "kpop magic" factors that defined the formula of kpop's international genesis. Where kpop really cracked a certain kind of appeal.
Large group of multiple young good looking members. Who can all sing and dance in an impressive synchronized fashion. With a kind of boyish, youthful aesthetic and feel that sports just the right amount of boy bandish self serious earnestness that is that magic sauce.
It's a big dance spectacle, but in a purist kind of way. The larger than life feeling comes not from CGI or big sets or some overdone narrative cheat. But straight from the core backbone of the kpop formula. Synchronized group dancing and vocals by good looking charismatic idols.
It's a vocal based song that emphasizes the group members vocal charm and synchrony in the kind of way old school kpop did where songs were not complicated exercises in production tricks and drops and 37 songs in one. It keeps it simple. And makes that simple big.
And this all landed during the tail end of the golden age of 2nd gen. Just the right time to sort of represent that period in just the right flavor of nostalgia. It helps that it's also an enthusiast's pick. Less the casuals pick.
It's a perfect storm kind of song.
It's amazing.

That was a really good explanation, thank you for putting in all this effort. I guess I can see now why, at least on an objective level, so many things came together well for The Chaser. I'll definitely keep an open ear and let it grow on me now that I have more context
