VMA already throwing bones to other kpop groups?

SVT getting nominated as "best new artist" when they have been on the scene for years & haven't done anything significant last year to warrant this sudden nom, BP getting nominated for some virtual concert they did literal a few days ago,...

it's clear VMA's are already looking for "next bts" kpop act. curious if they'll give another group finally a chance at credible noms now that bts might not hinder them. however, don't know how satisfying it will be though, needing the top act to leave before getting a moment to shine. what do you think is going to happen at future western award shows?

not really

svt did NOTHING special last year that made them a worthy candidate for best new artist (even their english debut with that weird apple promo thing didn't make any waves in the US). if they had some sort of outbreak in the west that was bigger than any other (kpop) act, bigger in ANY way, i would think they deserved it. this isn't meant as shade, they are a big kpop group & their other noms are deserved, but best new artist isn't. if any kpop group made a splash in the west last year, it was Twice.

with the BP one... tell me that one isn't fishy. the concert was TWO days before the noms, so it's not like the nom was really thought through. feels more like VMA rushing to please another kpop act.

Fishy? PUBG collab was announced a while ago.

it's not that other groups don't deserve american awards, but more that VMA (and maybe other shows in the future) doesn't seem to care about how fitting & thus how credible the noms are. if they wanted a new kpop group to shine, they should have nominated Twice.

They charted on the hot100 (first group since bts & bp), they did stadium concerts,...

H100 Charting and touring venue has got nothing to do with vma criteria
