Oh yeah I can't imagine it getting too cold down there but interesting....didn't know the seasons are flipped down there. This is the closest we'll get to "the upsidedown" lol
I live in Chicago so the states near top of the country near the great lakes gets even colder. It's not uncommon to see -23C and lower during the winter. It's a pain sometimes.

the mornings and evenings are cold but by like lunchtime if the sun is out it can get warm like up to 15-16 C

I know...I just wanted to say that it's a better song for some reason and IDEK
Winter...it's alright. It gets bitterly cold in the winter where I live so I'm kind of sour about it. It also feels like it drags on forever and it's the longest season even though every season is the same length calendar-wise. And I don't like how much shorter the days are than the other seasons. The leaves not being on the trees, birds and other animals not being out, and most flowers not blooming makes the environment feel kind of depressing as well.
I pretty much only like winter for the holidays and snow being generally pretty. Other than that, winter is a burden and doesn't really add much to it for me.
My rankings of seasons would pretty much be
1. Autumn - my birthday's in October, the leaves are beautiful, it's the perfect time to walk outside (not too cold, nice breezes, colorful leaves), I looove fall-related aesthetics (any aesthetics you would associate with the season like outfits, candles, decorations, etc.). Pretty much the only thing I don't like about it is it's when school starts back up again.
2. Spring - I love the flowers and it's not terribly hot all season either. It feels so refreshing and satisfying to come out of winter into spring as well. Flowers are blooming, birds are coming back, leaves are growing...it also has a large variety of holidays as well. I don't like how it's rain season pretty much the whole time though.
3. Summer - Summer is nice but it gets WAY too hot. I like how we don't have school so that's a big plus and subtracts from the stress of homework, schoolwork, projects, finals, tests, quizzes, grades/scores you name it! It also leaves you more freedom to do whatever...I also love to go on vacation!

I was always thinking that Australia was more like Southern U.S. weather. Hot generally all year but it gets pretty cool in winter mornings and evenings.

4. Winter
We pretty much have the same ranking except with winter throw to the top of the list.
It's definitely burdensome, with the freezing, and the layering clothes, and transportation taking longer, etc.
But the holidays are so magical that it makes up for it for me lol.
There's also fresh snow, it covers the ugliness of this world...for a day or two at least until it becomes black slush.
Then there's also the sound of winter, I can't describe it but if you ever been out in a very empty spot with no other humans around and it's snowing, if you just close your eyes and listen, there's that calmness and the snow dampens the rest of the sound in the world. -
I was always thinking that Australia was more like Southern U.S. weather. Hot generally all year but it gets pretty cool in winter mornings and evenings.
it can still get cold but in my state and my city it will never snow and it will never go below zero...
but I guess that's relative given that you guys in the US probably get it much much colder

Sure, it can be pretty and the holidays are nice but I can't stand it for the most part.
Also, do you feel that way as well? That some seasons are figuratively "longer" than others? This is how the year is l9ke for me season-wise.
Spring: 1 month, Summer: 4 months, Autumn: 2 month, Winter: 5 months
Yeah, the holidays are nice but I prefer warm weather. Or at least, a season where the weather's not one side or the other of the spectrum.
I don't think I have yet I feel like I know what you're talking about. I don't really go out that much in the winter by myself and when I do, I'm surrounded by houses and cars. But that actually sounds really nice!

Oh, I see...now I have a question that I feel kind of weird asking. When's the last time you saw snow yourself?
Yep, where I live, the weather here is pretty much how it is in South Korea. Relatively nice in the spring and fall/autumn, hot in the summer, cold in the winter. It actually doesn't go past 0 that much where I live since I live in the Midwest, but I think that people up North experience that more.
In the winter, it doesn't really get lower than 10F (~ (-12)C) where I live and usually stays in the 20s-low 40s (~(-6)C - ~4C)
Also anything below 32F (0C) is considered below freezing so they won't allow kids at school to go outside at that temperature and typically if you have a business that involves outdoor work, I don't know if you can legally make employees work outside below freezing

Oh, see. How'd you feel about it? Since you've been living in Australia for a long time and as you said, it doesn't really know down there.
LOL yep! It's happened before, especially in the winter. When the roads are deemed too dangerous by the school district. Because they're responsible for the kids that ride the bus as well. But that's pretty much it unless there was some natural disaster or something (if there is, it's typically tornadoes). I remember it was raining so much that even the streets were pretty flooded (especially parking lots, the roads weren't terrible) but school was still in session for all grades. Honestly, schools will try to stay open as much as possible. Only when they really can't open school is when they won't but most of the time, school is in session. They have to do it in order to make money.
At the most, when we get rain, they'll probably only delay bus arrival and departure times, stop all school-sponsored after-school activities and events, and be more understanding to those who were late to school.

Here in Chicago, we have 6 months of winter...3 months of fall, 2 month of spring, 1 month of summer...

it was dirty snow not like clean clean white snow lol
It was fun I guess but after a while the cold took over the funness of the snow
wait school is a for profit where you are ? like a private school right?
-
Oh, I see...so probably not as magical. But hey, at least it was fun! But I know exactly what you mean about the cold...
I asked because my paternal grandparents live in the very Southern U.S. where it's warm basically all year. So they freak out when it gets below 70 and call it "freezing". And they used to live in the Northern U.S. too where winters are very cold. (my mother's family lives one state above us so they get about the same weather. It snows more often up there though and the winters are slightly colder)
I'm relieved that someone who lives in a warm year-round location for many years doesn't live in a place like where I live. imo, winters are BRUTAL.
Actually, in my grandparents' state, there was an abnormal freeze in early 2021 in the area and it caused havoc. Unfortunately, because this state is known for being generally warm year-round, winter clothing was hard to come by even during the season. 6.8k people, unfortunately, passed away during this time and it was very scary. My grandparents were caught in the middle of it and even though they survived, they said that power would often go out, which meant heating and electricity wouldn't always work, and roads were severely iced which made it almost impossible to go anywhere. Not to mention they have a bridge and large hills to get out of their neighborhood which made it even more dangerous to leave the house. And even if you were able to get out and shop for things, so many things were off the shelves. I'm not sure if there were a lot of people that got sick but I can very much imagine this happening. Especially living in this state thinking that you're not really ever going to face the cold...imagine living there for years and your body has adapted to that hot weather and to not being too cold. No one was prepared. Not too many stores had winter coats, gloves, mittens, hats down there.
I just wish these people got a better warning. I mean, people can't really be at fault for not knowing, food and clothing production companies can't be at fault for not producing enough things to prepare for that. But I wish that somehow, they could get a better warning to prevent deaths and illness.

well the government needs to step up and actually do their damn job but it's America so screw the people right?
personally I like Australia's weather that it's very temperate...

This is also a pass for me unfortunately
