Doesn't this make yg and sm best out of all big companies?

  • They let their idols do the individual jobs, discover their potential instead of only tying them to the group activities. Which is better in a long run, by the time your contract ends you'd make a name of your own outside the group.

  • It definitely makes more sense, personally I'd find it a healthier balance and way of progression, to be able to have group activities while individual members are trying out various entertainment fields, collaborations, sub-units, etc.

Better than start when a group is years past their peak, or have members leave their group in order to have their solo career as you saw happen with a lot of western boy groups.

One big issue with YG though is that they spread their group's activities way too thin, and that includes even more the solo activities of those groups' members.

Not sure what are they doing with BP but with BB they did a good job. They took a break from group activities and let members do solos when they were at their peak.

  • yes if idols are ACTUALLY successful in their individual jobs. unfortunately, only one or two members shine per group. i would say yg because acts like big bang and bp have MOST if not all members really successful. can’t say the same for sm where one or two acts only become very successful.

  • SM yes, because they actually have a lot of connections, like somehow they have a hand in most variety shows and always get their comedians and idols on there. And their idols have always branched out to other activities like acting and variety among other things.

YG lets their idols do their own things, but like how often do they actually have real activities or projects? BLACKPINK have all these modeling stuff but they comeback once in a blue moon and their fans are starving to death.

Agreed. Big Bang is a prime example of how things can be done, with individual members doing their solo activities, with TOP doing great as an actor, Taeyang and GD doing great as solo artists, and even Daesung and Seungri have their solo tours - yet have the full group have their comebacks too.

SNSD was a great example too, with some members do great as solo artists and sub-units, others have great to moderate success in acting, while others were doing great in variety tv or musicals.

It's not about being the MOST successful, that kinda stuff is only important to success stans.

It's more about members getting the opportunities to gain experience and dive into all sorts of entertainment branches as individuals, getting supported to develop their personal careers.

  • Yeah exactly so what? if they don't become the most successful, everyone should be given the right to dive into solo ventures. It keeps the idols passionate about their work and make their solo brand stronger. Even flop sm idols get their variety shows and solos, it's not always about success.

And yg and BB case was really unique, they really had the upper hand in their activities and yg respected it. I don't think we can get BB2.0 in kpop like ever, they had so much power in their company.
