I don't understand koreans sometimes...

  • If japanese joins a Kpop group, it's tolerable for them. If a Kpop group makes japanese version of their singles and promote in Japan, it's ok for them. But if a japanese company like Avex opens up a company in Korea, hires korean staff and debuts a group there despite not singing in korean nor having korean members and labelled themselves as a global group, then korean say it's a declaration of war against korean culture. The knetz comments on XG M Countdown debut stage is a mess. Every ridiculous claims such as Japan is trying to take over the Kpop industry, colonization of Korea has started, Avex boss has insulted Kpop idols and fake lies like that. Seriously, sometimes I wonder if Korea is really ready to expand Kpop to the world when there are such backward mindset still lingering in the country....

  • Because you keep mistakingly seeing Kpop as global pop. As if it were an international clearing house and the implied 2 way flow of control and influence that entails.

Kpop is fundamentally about taking "Korea" outward. And is only inclined to foster exchange and outside participation to the extent it supports that fundamental goal.

A Japanese company setting up shop in Korea and putting forth a group such as that is not fundamentally in line with the idea of furthering Korea abroad. It's utilizing kpop as a tool, a platform, to put forth their own foreign objectives and interests. Which wouldn't face issue if kpop was in fact a global platform offering an international clearing house effect.

But that's not what kpop is. And any action that tries to use it as such will face backlash from native Korea.
