Has NCT reached their peak when it comes to music?

  • Not talking about sales/success, just music and music quality. Some say NCT’s music peaked in the “Kick it”, “Boss” eras. Given the lacklustre response to NCT’s music from Sticker to now, do you think NCT has reached their peak when it comes to music or are they still making progresses?

  • They peaked from boom-Ridin-hot sauce era

    Coming from a non fan

  • Why do non-fans care if they don't listen to the music lol? Anyway, the answer is no. Nct always comes out with new and exciting sounds. I personally really like that they don't stick to one thing and keep doing it again, it's refreshing.

  • music quality is something subjective! My problem with nct dream is that they used to have their own identity and now sm give them experimental title tracks like nct 127! Also you can make a bright concept without being childish sm...

  • Yes. This song is bland. They either release NCT 127 songs or bland ones these days. They used to be the best unit when it came to good music.

  • NCT songs have been going up and down so many times, basically since their debut.

So with their songs going all over the place in styles, it all depends on personal taste whether you like a song they came back with or not.

Seeing how they kept growing, I don't think they've reached their peak yet. It's just their regular (lol, pun) switching up of songs.

  • universe and beautiful were very underrated and they are pretty great.

Also seems someone forgot all about zoo going viral

with nct dream they had some bsides that were amazing

  • don't know. I don't like any of their songs but it's true that their songs used to be easier to listen to

  • you can't compare kick it or boss to the new dream releases tho, it's different groups. you could discuss about their music comparing boom and go to hot sauce and beatbox. but not kick it since it's a 127 song or boss which is a u song.

some people might argue sticker is a downgrade from kick it but favorite was liked by a lot of fans and non-fans, showing a more mature and serious side from 127, they showed growth with it

boss is one of nct biggest songs but then again MAW broke many of their records especially with ifans so ppl may consider it a new peak, while 90s love and let's play ball had moderate success in comparison but these songs weren't treated like proper cbs so SM didn't really invest in them

“Don’t combine the groups,” they say while combining all the groups.

NCT Dream’s Hot Sauce and Glitch Mode had higher peaks on the Korean charts than anything in the Boss or Kick It era.

Ok, we’ll let’s talk NCT 127. As much as people bitch and moan about Sticker, it is moving rapidly up the most streamed NCT songs on Spotify, although Favorite is moving faster. Favorite the song is moving faster than Kick It, while Sticker and Favorite the albums are moving faster than Neo Zone from a streaming perspective.

If you don’t care for the music, that’s fine, but it’s certainly not a “lackluster response” from the data. Other people are even more engaged with their music.

From a non-data perspective, I think they continue to evolve and grow into more rich textures and genres. Sticker feels like a natural evolution from The 7th Sense and Cherry Bomb. At the time, both songs were jarring in their dissonance and juxtaposition with unexpected structures, sounds and lyrics against the classic soaring SM vocals. Today, when the landscape is heavily inspired by NCT’s sound and the sounds of other rap-infused groups, it seems a lot more mainstream.

Sticker continues to fuel that legacy by pushing the boundaries. At the same time, the other side of the sound, the R&B side, has grown more complex and lush, as the members grow older and can infuse life experience into songs of longing and anguish - just listen to the current reintpretation of Back 2 U to see how they have evolved as emotional singers. This what makes a complex song like Favorite - about destructive love - so different from NCT in 2017 singing about shorty giving them whiplash.

I’m excited to see where they evolve to.
