Why don’t Itzy appeal more to the west?

  • Itzy seems tailored for the west: teen crush music, great dancing, they even make English versions for many of their songs. Yet three years have gone by and they haven’t had any significant progress in the West compared to their peers. Compared this to Blackpink who already charts on Billboard 100 two years in from debut, or Txt who are in top 5 Billboard 200 while Itzy haven’t cracked top 10. Why haven’t Americans warmed up to Itzy more?

  • Because they are boring

  • In all honesty... From Dalla Dalla to Loco, their music would never click in the west. It just ain't it. Similar case to aespa and Nmixx.

  • Main problem is their music. Look at Ive, the west is eating them up because they love their songs

  • idk I guess songs and kpop isn't really taken srsly

  • they’ve not been promoted in the West

  • Not even just west, globally in general it’s hasn’t been hitting that spot for most people

They still haven’t surpassed wannabe charting even though they’ve had multiple comebacks since and Spotify has grown so much since 2020. Honestly it’s rare these days for groups to not keep breaking. Their Spotify records, Ive, skz, aespa all improved after their recent comeback

We’ll see with this next comeback where itzy lies

  • bad music, boring members. they're not even all that popular in Asia compared to their seniors.

  • too different from what most people are used to

    western pop refuses to change

its been the same for decades now with the addition of hiphop into the mainstream later on

  • I think they should have ditched Lia when they had the chance. Itzy are a dance group, not a vocal group, and she slows them down. Their music is generic, in a loud way, but so is Blackpinks. Removing Lia and investing in better songs is all they need to do.

there’s always new things going on in western pop…kpop is literally just recycled western pop trends 5 years late

Also that lia is bully controversy hurting their reputation in korea

  • A bit noisy and too edgy sounding

  • It’s obviously their music. After wannabe their music turned for the worst and hasn’t recovered since then.

  • I don't get it when people say they're boring I don't stan them but I've watched some of their stuff they got good individuality, jyp needs to stop styling them like twins at western shows.

  • As a Westerner I don't even know what to say tbh. I do listen to their songs sometimes, but I don't have an interest in stanning them...

Member wise there aren't any i'm super into. I like Yuna and Yeji but I am not really into the rest. I used to like Lia but not anymore. Then music wise... There songs are fun, but looking at IVE and Lesserafim, Itzy music is starting to sound kind of dated and like an nmixx track, just not as extreme as O.O

  • Honestly... I think one reason is the pandemic.

Itzy seems tailor made to live performances. Their music is brash sound, they are obviously trained in stage presence and performance. They constantly KILL what little live performances they've been able to do during the pandemic.

It's also kind of obvious that JYP did try and position them as a group with Western appeal. Individualised members with set, distinct "personalities", making them all learn English from the start, the US promo tour thing early on.

I figure if the pandemic didn't hit and just kill their momentum, JYP would have had them already have one World Tour under their belts already.

Instead... the pandemic hit (and the stupid and never proven Lia thing) and it seems JYP just didn't know what to do with them.

They have Yuna, Yeji and Ryujin. The three of them could be absolute monsters if played right, but nope...

(and also Chaeryeong, my waifu for laifu)
