LOA is a very subdued form of a girl crush concept, so I wouldn’t call it that completely.
Also, I don’t think anyone could have beaten their popularity when they were doing cute concepts... it clearly worked for them.

It is a misconception that Twice is getting less popular/less successful. Their sales and view rates are the highest they have ever been. Facts don't support your "Twice is declining" narrative. Even in their supposedly "underwhelming" year they still sold combined over a million copies of their albums and earned 38M USD from Japan alone.

Had Twice kept their 'girl crush' sound they would have never gotten so big in Korea and Japan, which are their main markets to this day.
Twice are doing amazing internationally with ICSM breaking all previous Twice streaming records and M&M being their highest selling album ever so I don't get why you think they have declined.
