My Teenage Girl (방과후 설렘; lit. Excitement After School), also known as Teenage Girls, is a girl group survival show created by Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (abbreviated as MBC) for trainees above the age of 10 years old. It has the aim of debuting a global girl group that will chart on the Billboard charts. The contestants are put into groups that specialize in vocals, rapping, and performance. It is scheduled to premiere on November 28, 2021. Over 30,000 applications were received from different countries and 83 contestants were chosen. The 83 contestants are divided into four grades (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th) based on their age.
I. Background
On March 9, 2021, Sports Kyunghyang reported that MBC was preparing a new global audition show with PD Han Dong Chul, who had previously worked on shows like Show Me the Money, Unpretty Rapstar, Produce 101, and Sixteen. On June 1, 2021, the first video teaser was released. Public recruitments were held from June 1 to 30, 2021 for any female born in 2010 or earlier. A prequel season titled 등교 전 망설임 (lit. Hesitation Before Going to School) began airing on September 14, 2021. The same day, the official contestant profiles were released. The show's theme song "Same Same Different" was released digitally across different music platforms on October 2, 2021. The same day, the official performance for Grade 3 was released featuring Grade 3 Trainees.
