MAMA, abbreviated as Mnet Asia Music Awards, is a primarily South Korean award show presented by CJ E&M.
The first award show was held in 1999 on November 27 under the name of Mnet Video Music Awards. At that time, the Mnet Video Music Awards was the only Korean award show. Unlike before, when the award show was held in South Korea, the show was held outside of South Korea for the first time in November 2010, in Macau. From 2012 to 2016, they were held exclusively in Hong Kong. In 2017, the awards were held for the first time over four days and in three different cities.
