Thanks for your concern, but I read the entire thread before responding.
Bottom line: She's not an illegal alien, but she will be if Ador recognizes her departure and she fails to sign with a new entertainment company in the allotted time.

Their first job is to sing and perform. I have nothing against fanservice as long as the idol in question is ok with it, fanservice that is suffered by the idol is not defensible. I don't think your boss asks you to do Aegyo every time you meet him/her or wearing provocative outfits that you don't want to wear.
Maybe my boss asks me to dance to Baby Shark every time I go to his office. You don't know.
Idols aren't the same as regular singers. Their job description involves much more than simply performing, and unless their company asks them to do something unsavory or illegal, they're not really at liberty to just go, "Nah, I'm good, fam'." They have to earn their paycheck the same as everyone else.
You have to remember that idols are assigned personas before debut, they can't just act however they want when the cameras are on, and if the company wants them to be cute and do aegyo, they're going to be cute and do aegyo. Otherwise they risk punishment.
Something like being forced to wear provocative outfits, which are commonplace in Kpop, is a bit of a gray area. It really depends on how much leeway the company is willing to give an idol in their wardrobe choices. If they absolutely insist that an idol wear something in particular, they don't really have much of a choice if they want to keep their job, unless they're already a big star with seniority, in which case they're going to be given more say in the matter. But whether we like it or not, idols are essentially at the mercy of their company early on (or even longer, if they fail to make it big.)

The article is speculatory, so no proof is needed. It's merely highlighting a nuance of her insisting her contract is no longer valid. In this case, no valid contract means no valid visa. I'm no fan of AKP's clickbaity reporting, but it's like some of you didn't actually read the article and only saw "ILLEGAL ALIEN!"
-
Could you help convince my employer that they should stop forcing me to do things I don't like? I'm just in it for the money, I don't need any of that other nonsense.

Much ado about nothing.

Most of the "mess" was created by antis and the general public. They shouldn't have composed those cryptic tweets, but once the cancer had been removed, the group itself was fine.

Differences in levels of determination.

When did you get into K-pop? I’m asking because this might factor into your perspective.

Your tripping on your own words. Follow a directive and stick to it. Your own words contradict each other
I'm not tripping on anything or contradicting myself in any way. You're "tripping" if you think this qualifies as a valid critique of my opinion. At least TRY being specific, or make some sort of effort in general. This was just lazy.
That's the thing. She's a true professional. As a public person she only let people know what SHE wants them to know. That's why she's not like other idols at all. You and me will never get to know the real Wonyoung and for a public person that's a good thing. I actually think other celebs, not just idols, should do this more to set boundaries and take care of their image.
Wonyoung's way of carrying herself inspired so many other people. Wonyoungism is full of young girls taking care of their health and studies. Lucky vicky that went viral in Korea inspired not just people but also companies, to keep a positive mindset.
For people who don't know Wonyoung she may seem like just another pretty girl but she's a genius. There's no one like her in kpop and most likely won't be in the future either.
But people want to know "the real ______", even if it's a lie. That's a big part of what endears idols to their fans. Trying to set boundaries is fair, but I don't think presenting yourself as a blank slate constitutes professionalism. It's certainly a choice, but it doesn't make you any more professional than other idols who open themselves up more to the public eye, or at least successfully create the illusion that they do. It's true that image is everything in Kpop, and probably S. Korea in general, but the ultimate goal of an idol in that department is to maintain a positive image, not... a lack of an image altogether.
-
I don't agree at all. A big part of being an idol is having a personality (whether real or fabricated) that endears you to as many potential fans as possible, and I don't think Wonyoung has that. She's not relatable. In her quest for idol perfection, she lacks a sense of authenticity. I would even go as far as saying she has a certain robotic quality to her. Every time I see her, I feel like I'm looking at a shiny product instead of a person. While one could argue that all idols are ultimately pre-packaged products sold to us through carefully curated content, you're not supposed to be so cognizant of this. It's like seeing the man behind the curtain.
I say this as someone who isn't a fan of Ive and doesn't consume much content outside of hearing their music, but that is the rather cold impression she's left me with.

irene never was just a pretty face, she was a very charismatic member with a confident, deep and sweet personality hence why she had the biggest fanbase by far in rv and not only having the gp preference.
if she was just a trendy visual who mostly relies on gp, she would have sold 10k maybe as of now and that's it.
irene was HUGE. I dare say she was the center and the face of RV. that's why rv took such a major hit after gp turn their back on irene. well more specifically gp fell for joy during FMR but when sm didn't really capitalize on it well, joy got a bit forgotten.
and that's why comsic somehow flopped with the gp, because there was no hype left for the group.
They didn't take a hit after Irene's scandal. Queendom did fairly well and Feel My Rythm was one of their biggest hits. I blame Birthday for their downward trend. Still not sure what SM was thinking with that one. Chill Kill also could have used a different title track. Not that song quality even matters when no one pays Cosmic any mind.

Why does this sound like satire?
It's either sarcasm or they're not following along. NJ most definitely have a legal battle ahead of them, they're just avoiding it, which could potentially just lead to worse consequences.

We're all secretly a schizophrenic with multiple accounts.
Actually I consider this rather slanderous, especially the patrik-k comparison.

We're almost in 2025, and things have changed a lot. I don't think groups are just going to disband, never to be seen again.
There are way more opportunities and options for idols nowadays, and they also have more leverage than ever.
Look at GOT7, GFRIEND, 2NE1, Lovelyz, Brave Girls, B.A.P, and even BIGBANG. They've all managed to figure out a way to reunite and even have a formal comeback. It's as if there's no such thing as disbandment anymore unless there's some serious rift in chemistry or the members have no interest in continuing as a group. If anything, some idols might prefer this laidback approach to being idols.
I think part of this is the fact that they know how special the group is to them and the fans. No matter how much they do well as solo artists, there's always going to be the nostalgic appeal of group activity.
Coming back after everyone thought they permanently disbanded is probably much less pressure on them, and there's more of a work-life balance. They can do things on their own accord. For all of these groups that I mentioned, the members put in time and effort to reunite out of their own volition.
There's a girl group that reunited this year. My memory sucks right now, so I can't remember their name. I think it starts with a P? I think from 2nd gen. Well, they reunited and rerecorded one of their old songs. One of the members personally funded the reunion if I remember correctly. bartkun Help me out here. Which group was this?
SM groups don't get disbanded either way. They haven't even officially disbanded f(x), who are almost certainly never coming back. I meant that RV are most likely going on hiatus if they don't all renew with SM. Even if they do, I could see group activities start to take a backseat to solos from now on.

I'll say it again:
Most of the NJs' haters do not hate them for their actions against HYBE but instead their affiliation with MHJ.
I hate them for their affiliation with YamaChwan.
Not many girl groups would've fared much better than LSF with a literal zero backtrack fully live Coachella performance doing their full choreo.

If all members want to continue to have a group cbs SM will give them frequent cbs.
Shinee had frequent cbs and they were supposed to have a cb in may this year, but because 2 of them left SM and wanted to have more solo schedules they couldn’t make a cb anymore.
Anyways I’m hopeful for their cb in 2025 and for Seulgi’s 1st cb too
I wish this were true, but we have quite a few examples of the members publicly voicing discontent with SM in recent years, and they most likely don't receive as many group activities as they'd like (they've been doing only one comeback a year for the most part.) I wouldn't be at all surprised if Joy in particular decided to leave, especially if the rumors about her wanting to pursue acting more are true.
-
Red Velvet isn’t going anywhere. Every time they come back people say this. They had a good cb, so I’m expecting them to return in 2025
Except most people have been saying this while ignoring the fact that they're still under contract, so there was basically no possibility of them going on hiatus until now. This is no longer the case, with their contracts ending at various points this year and the status of three members still being a complete mystery. I'd like to think it won't affect them either way, but an SM girl group has never NOT gone on hiatus after members leave the company.
Cosmic was most likely considered a disappointment, both in terms of charting & sales, so that also doesn't help. Nor does SM debuting another girl group soon.

Sus. I feel like OP has a kink for human behavior theory and how it relates to K-pop.
People have been waiting for an album from Irene since forever now. It might be another forever until we get another Irene solo project. That's why people are cherishing this while they can.
Meanwhile Taeyeon comes back at least once a year. The other SM female vocalists are bound to come back at some point.
With Irene, you just never know when that will happen.
Considering her sales, I doubt it'll be too long before we see a comeback from Irene. Especially given the fact that there's a high possibility that Red Velvet is winding down soon, as much as I hate to say it. So we could be seeing a lot more solo Irene and hopefully Irene & Seulgi as a subunit, at the very least.
