I partly blame SM. Twice picked up SNSD's cute concept and BP did the girl crush concept that 2NE1 had with the pretty faces to go along with it. Don't get me wrong RV has a distinct sound to them but it's really experimental and is very hit or miss with gp. You can put out experimental stuff after some time but you want to have public friendly must the first 2-3 years after debut. SM wanted to make experimental SM music and some worked while others didn't. For example I love bad boy, psyco, queendom, monster, etc. but hated zimzalabim (idk how to spell that). SM did the same with NCT and while they do have a good fandom they have virtually no gp recognition. While gp might not be the most important, in kpop there is typically a huge jump in your fandom with a gp hit. Look at EXO and growl, tvxq and mitotic, aespa and next level, etc. Twice had cheer up and tt and blackpink had d4 which is what lead to their massive success. While RV has some medium hits, it isn't anything like cheer up or d4. If NCT doesn't have a gp hit they will eventually be beaten out by 4th gen boy groups that get that gp hit. Nothing wrong with it since their fans love their experimental music.

Can I ask you how many minutes you listened to BTS?
I did 9k to be in top0.05% for IU
I bet it's harder to be in top2% for BTS than top0.05% for IU
Remember that top 2% is a ratio so if iu had 1M ul and bts had 10M top 2% for iu would be 20k vs bits which would be 200k and that helps since there’s a lot of people who only listened to dynamite or butter but they still count towards the ratio
