Daesang is like a gold medal, you shouldn't give it to someone who finished in 2nd,3rd, or anything lesser than 1st place. Simple as that.
Display MoreBigbang fucking gripped Korea for an entire year, song after song, where the entire country was listening to their songs and their music.
Exo (or any group in a similar situation, such at BTS this year) simply Hocking physicals to a dedicated fandom and tanking (or lacking) in general reach, and deserving to be "artist of the year" , brother if that's the criteria then that award is worth diddly squat.
Look at NCT this year. No-one on god's green earth outside their fervent fandom is giving 2 shits. The noise of Korea, the public, the culture was dominated by New Jeans, IVE, (G)I-DLE, hell throw Melomance in there. They deserve it more then NCT for christ's sake.
That's why these reactions. Just because some group sells 10 albums to each fan is more deserving of a group that actually puts out music that lands in a big way with the entire country? Just garbage bin awards, quite frankly. Doesn't matter who or what wins it.
Wut? Most of the time, the criteria for 'Artist of The Year' is 'Physical+Digital+Worldwide popularity'. Just one or two hit song in Korea won't give you 'Artist of the Year' award.
NCT Dream will win the daesang
You can quote me in 12 hours
Lmao you were right
For Idol Group, imo
-SNSD (2009/2010)
Gee broke the record for most music show win on Music Bank iirc. Ranked no #1 on Gallup survey for 'Singer of the Year'
-Bigbang (2015)
They won 'Song of The Year' Daesang with 3 different song in that year. Ranked no #1 on Gallup survey for 'Singer of the Year'
-BTS (2020)
Dynamite stayed at no #1 Melon daily chart for 75 days, Daesang sweep. Ranked no #1 on Gallup survey for 'Singer of the Year'
Throughout history only 3 group managed to get no #1 rank on Gallup survey for 'Singer of The Year' and thats SNSD (2009-2011), Bigbang (2015), and BTS (2018-2022)
Right now Shinee is far more popular than their non-Big 3 counterpart tho (Beast/Highlight and Infinite), ShiBeIn used to be a popular term back then.
Also no offense to them, but some Big3 group you mention above like Miss A, Winner, Ikon, f(x), Shinee just to name a few were a Big3 group with 'mid/a little above average' popularity at their peak, yet new kpop fans think they were on the same level as 'legendary' non-Big3 group like T-ara, Kara, Sistar etc. Which kinda prove OP point that being in the Big3 give you this more long lasting impact.
I guess if ppl want to compare Big3 vs non Big3, it should be something like this:
-Top tier group : 2ne1, SNSD, WG vs T-ara, Kara, Sistar
-Above average tier : Shinee, 2pm vs Beast, Infinite
They used to be rival during their heyday, yet the one from Big3 is being remembered more than their counterpart from non Big3
Total attendance for that matter didn't hold much weight cause there was no big difference in attendance to say total attendance > number of countries.
I know nothing about Ateez. Their recent had 180k attendees, that's good for a non Big 3 group.
I actually responding to your 2nd paragraph when I said 'total attendance >> number of countries' lol, cause ppl keep saying how BP is a bigger touring act than other top group simply bcs they manage to tour in more countries compared to others which is absurd imo, cause group with mid popularity like Ateez manage to tour in various countries as well.
320k attendance is not all that for a top BG. TWICE's Dreamday with 5 shows has 220k attendees and they had a million applicants for it. To me, 220k with 5 shows >>> 320k with 30 shows
Like I mentioned in OP, BP tours countries that are impossible for any group that's not BTS. That's more impressive to me and this new tour will outdo EXO Planet 2.
'Total attendance >> Number of countries' imo. Ateez toured in more countries compare to EXO, Twice, etc does that mean they have a bigger touring power than EXO & Twice? Ofc not, lel.
Coincidentally, I'm actually in the process of putting together an analysis of Third Generation girl group concert attendance.
The bottom line is that only Blackpink and Twice have any serious touring power. Both groups will end 2022 with around 1 million in total concert attendance.
Why only do a Girlgroup and not overall?
i think bts,
you must've read the question wrong
'Red Velvet - Red Flavour' is the first SM's song to get a PAK iirc.
