As someone who’s Gen Z, the answer is pretty simple.
Gen Z have very little to no interest in forums. Forums are nostalgic for people who are millennial and older, but they have barely any use for younger K-pop fans.
I’ve also noticed that new gen K-pop fans much prefer staying on twitter and tiktok and are happier and more content in echo chamber bubbles in comparison to older fans who seem to prefer diversity of discussion.
When newer fans aren’t joining, stagnation is an inevitability. The pandemic may have given the forum an artificial boost because of lockdowns but it was temporary and the fallout from it was certain to be big.
I think forums are awesome because I like talking to people from different fandoms and having balanced discussions. But I’m in the minority here for kpop fans my age who have no interest in conversing with people outside their fandoms (unless it’s to fight 🤷🏻♂️)
Discord, tiktok and twitter (and even Reddit to a fairly large extent) are probably the biggest factors that forums are dying across the board.
This forum isn’t perfect but the lack of active users shouldn’t be blamed on others such as mods or whatever. It’s easy to point fingers at others but this forum is honestly very active in comparison to most forum sites on the internet.
And the mods here are very fast and helpful from my experience. Trust me, they are saints compared to some shady mods I’ve come across.
It’s just a sign of the times, no one is to blame and it’s not going to change even with the dozens of layout changes.
hey maybe Elon will explode Twitter one day and this forum will rise like a phoenix again…but until then a small community is pretty cozy. I like it here.
