Jiang Zhenyu is ethnic Korean? I never heard that. She was born in Yunnan, in the South East near Burma so if she's minority, it would be Dai (Tai) or Kinh (Vietnamese) related than Korean. I think she is Han though.

Chaoyue is Bai which is a Tai related ethnicity from Yunnan as well. On Yamy, I read that Cantonese have a heavy mixture of Zhuang (yet another Tai group) especially on the maternal side -- those in KPOP from this ethnicity would be Elkie, Cheng Xiao, Xuanyi and Vivi.

The center for the Chuang 2020 theme song, Lin Junyi, was definitely ethnic Korean. She was one of my faves along with Sally (Cantonese) and Hu Maer (Uighur) and Curley (Uighur.)

Wow! The visuals, the sounds and the crowd.

That stage is amazing! The Bon Bon Girls rocked it on this two-song set.

If China is as shitty as some people say, they would be as poor as North Korea and no one would bothered with their market.

But China is wealthy and has both the world the world's largest outbound tourism market and also the most overseas students. Millions of people who travel over the world and go back to China.

If it were so shitty then they would be overwhelming the world as refugees. My grandparents were forced out of Vietnam as boat people because they were Chinese. Thousands upon thousands died. But they still left because communist Vietnam was a shithole back then.

People would just leave if things were bad. It isn't happening in China.

It always gets like this when people bring up Chinese sales. Or even popularity in China or other Asian countries. They are always treated as lesser than the US/the west.

A lot of people here kiss the white man's arse. Insane when we are talking KPOP which is a form of Asian pop culture.

Chinese bars spend far more on KPOP sales than Ifans from the US and the West for ever group except for BTS. Of course, that is why Army sometimes say they are not KPOP.

Yes, I think among Chinese it is a pretty powerful trend (Han Fu) and is driven by pop culture -- CDrama, CPOP, Donghua/animation and Douyin/Tik Tok:

they are always problematic, but from a business stand point, yes. they still bring in that Chinese money.

It is always the money. As long as the China bars still generate a lot of sales, they'll continue to recruit. There's no charity involved. No Chinese trainee ever got accepted just going to Korea and sitting in front of a K-Ent agency. They were all recruited in China. Agencies wouldn't recruit there if there were no money.

Lol. Yeah, a lot of songs are driven by TikTok/Douyin, especially China.

    well that's america...

Biden also halted Hueawei's expansions in the US as well by preventing them from doing something as well (I can't exactly remember which)

Huawei was a technical challenge sort of like Sony in the 1990s? (I took international trade classes.) The US stopped Betamax from being the main storage for media despite it being the better overall product than VHS. At least that is what I read. I haven't watched a tape in my life though my grandparents had a player. lol

But TikTok is mainly content not technology. The US is trying to stop a particular pop culture art form (short videos) that Tik Tok led in. So this is closer to censorship or cultural discrimination than a technology competition thing.

ByteDance launches Volcano Engine brand to offer its ‘secret’ to businesses

    Reuters / 10:17 PM June 10, 2021

BEIJING — TikTok owner ByteDance launched the Volcano Engine brand on Thursday to offer its personalized recommendation algorithm to more corporate clients, as the Chinese company seeks to expand beyond its mainstay consumer apps.

ByteDance’s recommendation system is considered the “secret sauce” in its success with apps including TikTok, TikTok’s Chinese version Douyin, and news aggregator Toutiao.

it's effectively the same thing though right?

I mean YT is banned in China but they haave billibilli which is effectively the saame thing

Right but Trump tried to ban Tik Tok.

Anyways, thanks for answering. Here are some prett girls

    I'm a boomer I use neither lol

no seriously I don't use either...

Oh well, Douyin is what drives Chinese pop/youth culture from what I read. Wonder how it relates in the West.

Tik Tok had taken off sort of like anime from Japan and Kpop from Korea. The only difference is the US didn't try to ban anime or KPOP.

The secret "sauce" of Tik Tok is same in China as the West or different?
