Sitting Next To Him
Chapter 1: The Guy With The Earring
Greta wakes up.
She dreamt that she was on a romantic date with Jeremy.
She feels sad, wishing it was real.
Her cheek turn pink from the thoughts about him holding her hand.
She gets up and looks into the mirror.
She looks at her curly hair that has the colour of dark chocolate.
Then her eyes that are as green as her neighbour's grass.
She brushes her hair, before she goes in the kitchen to eat Lucky Charms.
After eating breakfast, she starts wearing a pink sweater over a white T-shirt and sky blue jeans.
Then she puts on mascara and clear lip gloss.
She checks herself in the mirror, hoping that her appearance will make Jeremy swoon.
Then she puts on white sneakers, before getting out of her house.
Walking to the bus stop, where she sees her friend Nicole.
"Oh hi, Greta."
"Hi, how are you?"
"I'm fine. And you?"
"I'm fine too." she says, even though she thinks about how her parents have talked about getting a divorce, and it stresses her out.
Then the school bus arrives.
And she gets in it.
No seat available, so she decides to sit next to a black haired guy, who is asleep.
He is wearing a sky blue denim jacket over his white shirt and ripped jeans that are a darker shade of blue.
She notices he has an earring on his left ear.
He wakes up.
She looks into his eyes.
They are as brown as chocolate.
"Couldn't you have picked a different seat, you weirdo?" he asks.
"Weirdo?" she says offended. "Excuse me, I'm not a weirdo."
"Tsk, whatever."
She doesn't think she has met this guy before, but she already dislikes him.
Later, she is in the hallway, standing by the locker.
She tries to search for her English textbook.
Then suddenly she hears Jeremy's voice.
She sees him walking, while talking to another guy.
She can't hear what they are talking about, but her heart is fluttering from seeing him.
When the bell rings, she walks into the classroom, her English textbook in her hand.
She goes to her seat and sits down.
She looks at the empty table next to hers, and thinks about if she and Nicole were classmates, she would have sat there next to her.
Then the English teacher walks in.
"Before we start class, I want to tell you, that we have a transfer student."
She looks at the empty seat next to hers, wondering who might end up sitting next to her.
Then a guy walks into the room.
It's the guy from the bus.
"His name is Sean and he is from Chicago." the teacher says. Then he looks at the guy and tells him. "There is an empty seat next to Greta."
Then he takes a seat next to hers, avoiding eye contact with her.
"Now we're going to read the short story 'The Blue Boat'" the teacher says.
After class, Sean says to her sarcastically: "Wow, isn't that amazing that we sitting next each others again?"
She suddenly wishes that she sat next to someone else when they were on the bus.
"Also, Greta? What a grandma name. Are you 16 or 60 years old?"
"First you call me a weirdo, and now a grandma?"
"Yes, you're a weirdo grandma."
"You're so childish. Did you go to kindergarten right before you started being the transfer student?"
"Yes, and I guess you were in retirement home before you started going to school here." he says before getting up from his seat and sticks out his tongue at her.
After school, she gets up on the bus again.
This time she decides not to sit next to him and takes a seat next to Nicole instead.
When she is home, she decides to read the short story The Blue Boat again.
She tries to figure out the symbolism.
She thinks about the main character who is an old woman.
But then she gets distracted by how Sean called her a grandma.
"Ugh, I hate that guy." she whispers to herself.
The end of chapter 1.
There won't be any chapter 2, but it is obvious that Greta and Sean are going to fall in love and end up together.
