Addressing your relatives

In native English speaking communities it can be easier- Grandpa/ ma, uncle, auntie , cousin XXX would cover most of it I guess.

In Mandarin speaking communities its headache when you have a big family.

Relatives on father's mother's sides and extension from both sides , all addressed differently

When people are asked how to addressed their auntie's daughter's 2nd cousin they need to make some teas and think it over.

Even came up this relative appellation calculator

Put in me as male / female , then father's/ mother's side, then press younger/ older brother( uncle), then son/ daughter( uncle's son/ daughter), then husband( uncle's daughter's husband) , then auntie...... and wala.

That would be how I address one of my relatives

and then there's things like sister in law which can refer to your sister's husband or your husband's sister

nothing is perfect

but when it takes even a calculator to tell you how to address someone and not even sure if the computer put out the right answer then it is trouble.

it has to do with culture.

I've had meetings with my mother's fathers (grandfather)'s younger female cousin's male children's female child lol

can only make it a fun thing to do when a string of layers come into play

might still not be accurate anyways after discussion with distant relatives.
