Do you mind sitting next to a stranger?

  • well the situation is can it be avoided

obviously in settings like public transport or at the movies sometimes it's unavoidable...so you sit next to someone

obviously if the entire bus is empty but for one person...I'm not going to sit next to them lol

  • I don't care, I'm usually not paying much attention of my surroundings. But it depends on their behaviour of course, they should just mind their own business ^^

  • As long as they don't bother me it's okay.

Usually I put my belongings on the seat next to me if the bus is empty. If the bus is starting to get full I take my belongings in case someone needs a seat. Most people ask if the seat next to me is free or not, so I don't have a problem with anyone sitting next to me.

  • If the bus is getting full I don't bother looking for a seat and I stay standing.I'd rather give up any remaining spots to the elderly + I truly don't mind standing in public transit eitherway.

If someone asks me whether the seat next to me is free,I'll let them sit.

Just please, make sure you have good hygiene...I've had bad experiences <X

Yep, many times these situations are unavoidable, like it's pretty often that you're going to be in a crowded bus or plane or movie theater. I would definitely choose to isolated from people I'm unfamiliar with if I had the choice.

But this thread is asking people if you have to sit directly next to someone and there's no other spot, how would you normally react to it?

Oh nooo, that last sentence! I always worry when I'm at a place where there's a huge possibility that you could end up sitting directly next to someone (bus, subway, plane, movie theater, etc.) about what they're hygiene is like.

I wouldn't enjoy sitting next to someone who doesn't smell too pleasant the whole ride or movie.

  • I don’t have a problem with it. I do have a problem with strangers who want to be besties on a 7 am flight. I don’t want to be anyone’s friend in the morning. Never have I faked sleep so much. If it’s available, I’ll always spring for that cheapie last minute first class upgrade but good lord, first class people are so so damned chatty. :pepe-spray:

but in that case it's unavoidable right?

and again depends on the situation

if it's the bus - no one says a word

I've had small talk before at the movies with random people

on a plane I'm usually next to my family but I've had small talk before...

Ah, I see. I usually sit next to my family on the plane though there are some occasions where I'm sitting by myself next to a stranger depending on the available seats.

I don't say a word in either situation though.
