There are many opinions about what the top groups are. However, the only ones we’ve come across that appear to have an objective basis are those created by the Korean Business Research Institute (KBRI). These rankings are determined through an analysis of the consumer participation, media coverage, interaction, and community indexes of various girl groups. The KBRI statistics are released monthly. Our analysis provides a broader and more balanced view by combining the monthly rankings into annual averages.
This chart shows how the ranks of the current top 20 girl groups have changed in the near term. The first column shows the difference in rank between the current month and the previous month. The next column shows the difference in rank between the current month and a half year ago. The popularity of the top 10 groups is remarkably stable. The lower the rank, the more variable the rank distribution becomes. The KBRI rankings are based on social media metrics only. To see an analysis of sales you should use the Gaon Music Charts.

Just four months after their debut, rookie K-pop girl group IVE has beaten veteran group Big Bang on a music show, sold more than 300,000 copies of their second single album and made Spotify history. aespa released a new album and one of its songs is aenergy. This song immediately became a hit and the group performed it at the Chochella Music Festival. Girls' Generation as a group did not release any new albums. However, Taeyeon released the single "INVU" which immediately moved to the top on Melon and several other major music charts. Top Winners/Losers is determined by adding the rank difference since last month and since half year ago. For example, the net change for (G)I-DLE is +1 -4 =-3.
