I have been reading about why athlete get exempted and it is not as simple as what they have done and achieve for the country. There is just more to that and I came with 2 questions:
1. What did they achieve and why enlisting now is a bad choice to the country?
2. What exactly have they achieve(that is prestige for Korean) to get exempted?
question 1:
This is a very simple question. What they have done to the country that they deserve to get exempted? and why enlisting now is bad for the country?
For example, athlete winning medal for the country is something athlete needed to achieve to get exempted.
Also, why is athlete enlisting when they won medal is bad for the country? Athlete have their peak and when they won medal, they are either on their peak or climbing for more medal. If they enlist now and stop practice for 2 years, they might not able to get where they are before. Which will result into ruining an athlete's career and stop helping the country to get the medal. Therefore, there is an exemption for athlete who won medal.
Question 2:
What exactly have they achieve to get exempted?
Exemption is not target individually, but target a group of people. For that being said, when they give BTS an exemption, they need to state what is the requirement to get the exemption. That mean if any idol in the future have met the requirement, they will also allow to get exempted from the military.
This whole thing is not just about BTS, but is about the whole idol industry.
