technically IU has had more impact on the people
but
for some reason
korea a a nation is obsessed with national athlete status
singers are treated like lowest class of celebrities there although their content has the most direct impact in people's lives
and athletes are given the highest status among entertainers which no other nation does
i doubt most of the country even gives a shit about figure skating in general
its weird but it is what it is
it probably helps that she's considered extremely pretty by korean standards and its a society where pretty people can do no wrong

yeah i mean people do put pride in sportsmen but they barely have any impacts in people's lives
beyond people who actively love and support the sport, its just free ego boost and vanity

But Kim Yuna is not any other national athlete. She's like the female version of Yuzuru Hanyu where everybody just love, respect, and acknowledge that they're the best at their respective fields. Beside getting a gold medal is a massive deal. Sure Yuna being pretty increase how people idolize her but even if she's average she will still be respected and be seen how pretty just because of how proud they are of her achievement. Oh and i think what happened with Sochi also intensify their support to her.

yeah its crazy how popular she is. I think shes like the Yoo Jae Suk in sports. She does alot of charity and ambassadors too, good for her. Again, they're different fields so I wouldnt compare them like that, hard to narrow down.
Maybe because youre young or just only into KPOP, but Kim Yuna is very well known, even in other countries too. IU is great too, but different fields.
