Discussing AKP users most common conservative opinion part 1: Death Penalty

  • I'm in the middle, like so many innocent people have been killed by the death penalty but also there are some criminals that deserve death, like people that have committed such evil acts. I think the death penalty should only be used on very very very bad cases like there needs to be a committee that you have to go through to decide on whether the person should be punished by the death penalty.

  • Anti-death penalty. Mostly because I do believe anyone is capable of rehabilitation, the only reason we think the contrary is because the justice system doesn't want to put in the effort to actually help convicts, so people are convinced it's not possible

Second of all it's better in cases of false or badly investigated crimes. There've been people facing jail time for at least a decade and only later it's found out that they were not guilty. I know the cases are few but they do happen, especially when there's biases. That's a different discussion though

I know the first point is debatable but that's what I think :pepe-notes:

  • anti death penalty but not for the common reason. Typically its reserved for the most heinous people on the planet. Death will get everyone at some point, regardless of what you do in life. So why do they experience death before their time? If the goal is to deter people from doing such things, wouldn't simply life in super max prison with no chance of getting out be the best way? Yes you cam argue it costs alot of money, but the goal is to maximise suffering for them people and thats how you do it

  • i do strongly believe that there are reforms that need to be made. the death penalty should only be for the worst of the worst that are a threat to society, not abolished entirely.

  • Yeah uh. The justice system isn't 100% perfect which means you're risking killing innocent people. It doesn't happen often... at least I don't think it does in the US from what I read, but the fact that it happens at all is too many.

Of course there are scum that would deserve it, but I would rather incarcerate them for life where they can't harm anyone.

There are more practical reasons to be against it... it's cheaper to just incarcerate, and ideally you can allocate the money to better things, but the first point is the main reason I'm against it.

  • I’m against death penalty because

    1. Justice system still makes mistakes

    2. No matter how some try to spin it, it’s still murder and I think it’s hypocritical to condemn murder by punishing it with murder.

    3. I don’t think it’s even a punishmentyou get killed peacefully without any pain while your victims went through hell. It’s actually a relief for many and several serial killers even preferred the death penalty because they didn’t want to rot in jail… especially criminals who committed SA or child abuse know they won’t have a nice time in prison.

  • I’d be in favor of it on a theoretical level, in which the justice system was not this faulty and corrupt. I believe people who did some really depraved things do not deserve rehabilitation.

But would I want it to be introduced to our current system? Big no, because the people who deserve it most would probably never receive it.

  • While I can sit here and type that I am against it for logical reasons, I know that I cannot even begin to imagine what it feels like to have one of my close loved ones be the victim of a cold-blooded killer.

If I lose a loved one to a criminal, I don't think them dying makes me feel better. I would want more.

atleast with religious people they belive after death the criminal would experience eternal damnation but I don't believe in after life.

I would want them to bleed now

Oo, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be satisfied with lethal injection either.

  • It really depends for me. You would have to not only murder someone brutally, but have lots of evidence proving it. The level of severity in whatever happened is crucial to me too.

I was reading up on some gruesome cases like the Junko Furuta case where she was severely tortured by a group of guys for around a month then was finally killed. It makes me feel sick inside that the men who did it only got several years in prison (This happened in the 80s so that means they're walking free as we speak)

If we wanted to be truly equal to what those guys did, we would torture them in the same way and then give them the death penalty. They need to know how it feels. Jailtime for only years isn't the proper justice in that situation.

  • I’m usually on the fence about the death penalty. But one thing I won’t lose sleep over, if it’s deemed the appropriate punishment, is when it’s handed down to people who’ve hurt children with malicious intent. I’ve read too many news reports of people doing evil things to children that I feel strongly about this.
